The Academic The Academic are a 4 piece indie/rock band from the outskirts of Mullingar, a small town in Ireland. The band is made up of Craig Fitzgerald( lead vocals/guitar),Dean Gavin (drums) and brothers Matt Murtagh (lead guitar) and Stephen Murtagh (bass). Having played together in various bands together since their early teens, The Academic was formed towards the latter end of 2013.

Launching their debut single "Different" in March of 2015,the song quickly became one of the most popular tracks on Irish radio ultimately earning the band a nomination for the Choice Music Prize - Song of The Year. The success of "Different" translated to the UK and European radio where it also caught the attention of Radio 1 and Radio X in the UK and various European radio stations including 3FM in The Netherlands. "Different" also soared on Spotify peaking at No.11 on Spotify's Global Viral Chart and No.1 in Ireland.

The Academic released followed up on the success of their debut single with their debut EP "Loose Friends" in October 2015.
