S.Chandrasekaran, born in Singapore. He has completed his Doctor of Creative Arts at Curtin University, Australia. He was the Head of the School of Fine Art at LASALLE-SIA, College of the Arts (Singapore) from 1999-2002, and Head of Department of Fine, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts(Singapore) from 2009-2010. Presently, he is a Senior Research Fellow at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. He is a founding member of Bioalloy and Body Group, and artistic director for Biological Arts Theatre (BAT).
Chandra has represented in major exhibitions, such as Havana Biennial, 1st Asia Pacific Triennial(Brisbane), Asia-Pacific Performance Art Festival(Canada), International Performance Art Festival(Poland ), 49th Venice Biennale, World Sculpture Park (China), Sharjah International Biennial (UAE), Midland Live Art (Australia) National Review of Live Art (Glasgow), Lulea Biennial (Sweden), 3rd Asia Pacific Arts Forum (Taipei), International Museum of Artist’s Fringe Festival at 56th Venice Biennale and Documenta, Biennale of Electronic Arts (Australia), and 8th Festival of Contemporary art (Slovenia).
Current Research Interests
•Third Skin: Post-Humanist research on the relationship between Life Sciences and Visual Arts.
•Between Bodies: Performativity investigation on the notion of quasi-living bodily presence.
•Second Culture: Investigation on cross-cultural behaviors among artists in performance art.
