Tereza[edit]

History[edit]

Tereza[1][2] the Quebec City, Canada Heavy Metal band was originally from Sainte-Thérèse-de-Lisieux. The band started to gig around the main underground venues of the Capital Nationale in 1996 before producing its first self-released album, with Crunch Communications, Rapace[3], in a Limoilou studio. Robert (Bob) Jr Girard[4][5] (vocals), Dany Thomassin (Bass guitar), Patrick Lessard (Drums) and Raynald Clavet (Guitar) are the original members. The band slowly incorporated a second singer, Jalal Sunstrum (Jalad[6]), the ex-singer of Gris Masse who started off as a guest at their shows. He sang on two tracks on the album. They were the very first Metal band to play at the Dagobert, played at the Foufounes Electriques[7] (Montreal), l'Arlequin (Quebec City), le D'Auteuil, opened for Voivod at the Kashmir (Quebec City), Mass Hysteria, Dying Fetus, gigged at the Envol et Macadam Festival[8], toured the Province (notably Rimouski) before participating on the Concours Polliwog on Musique Plus. They eventually made it to the finals and mentioned in the press. Their eclectic, corrosive approach to the genre, their tendency to be provocative, their EVoï rally call, their acclaim as being a "Metal boys band", their original high voltage performances, their visibility on television, lead them to emerge on the Metal and Death Metal scene in Quebec, meriting a large supportive fan-base. They eventually released another album, Refund Zero with the guitarist of Kermess as producer. In 1998, Sunstrum left the band turning towards Baha'i-inspired poetry and later lead a solo career with Ditto and MegaBuzz Music. In 2000, two new members, Sebastien Dupont (guitar) and Pascal Deschâtelets (Bass) joined the band and planned to sing in French but they broke up in 2001. Girard went on to found Ancestor's Revenge and talked about Quebec City Metal bands on CHOI 981 Radio X. Rapace the album is now in the Canadian Museum of Music.[edit]
