Etymology of the name

8TH EDIT

Why is it socially and culturally important? What is the history?

9TH EDIT

Why is the Buc-ee's Beaver not mentioned?

Aplin formed the name Buc-ee's by combining his childhood nickname; the name of his Labrador Retriever, Buck; as well as the appeal of Ipana toothpaste's animated mascot, Bucky the beaver. Aplin was born in Southeast Texas, with his father originating from, and grandparents residing in, Harrisonburg, Louisiana. Buc-ee's expanded and opened its first travel center in Luling, Texas, in 2003.

Notes

WP In Context

  • Buc-ee's is linked by 221 articles but about 60 of those are "talk" page links and so it's not the most accurate count.
  • Buc-ee's links "country stores" and "gas stations" which seems really appropriate. It links almost every single state it references, which seems kind of unnecessary.
  • A lot of other gas stations link to Buc-ee's. For example: Circle K, Mobil, 7-Eleven.
  • I originally thought linking cities was unnecessary but I saw that the cities also linked Buc-ee's, which tells me that is it significant enough to those cities.

Existing Communication

  • Buc-ee’s has a discussion about correcting the number of gas pumps at the New Braunfels location. Forgive me, but I found it silly. I think its frivolous and there is no reason for them to be trying to figure out how many gas pumps are at each one. At most, they can have one sentence in the article about the range or average of gas pumps if the point is for the reader to understand how large the gas station is. I see now that the detail has been removed from the New Braunfels blurb.
  • There is relevant talk in the talk page about “advertising-like” language. One editor discussed that Wiki guidelines encourage editors to look for text that reads like an Ad.
  • There are no real controversies.
