Seasons

The 2023–24 Stony Brook Seawolves women's basketball team represents Stony Brook University in the 2023–24 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Seawolves play home games at Island Federal Credit Union Arena in Stony Brook, New York and are led by third-year head coach Ashley Langford. It is their second year as a member of the Coastal Athletic Association.

During this season, Stony Brook notably has an all-Black coaching staff at a PWI (Predominantly White Institution), a rarity in college sports.[1]

Previous season[edit]

The 2022–23 season was Stony Brook's first in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), now Coastal. With three games left in the regular season, Stony Brook was in second place and one game back from first place, but starting center Sherese Pittman, who was the CAA's second-leading rebounder while averaging 13.2 points per game, missed the rest of the season with injury and Stony Brook lost all three games, sinking to sixth place.[2]

Stony Brook beat Elon in the first round after being down by 16 in the third quarter[3], but lost 85–68 to Northeastern in the quarterfinals, being outscored 25–10 in the fourth quarter, ending the season with an 18–13 record (11–7 CAA).[4]
