Gye-Jun Ryu

[edit]

Gye-Jun Ryu (also known as Yoo Gye-Jun)[1][2][3] was a Korean religious leader, nationalist activist, and martyr in Korea's independence movement.[2][4]

Ryu was a leader in the Presbyterian movement in Korea and was an appointed elder alongside Cho Man-Sik of Sanjunghyun Church in Pyongyang[3][4], a birthplace of the Presbyterian Church of Korea.[1][5][6]

Ryu is the father of Paul K. Ryu, the sixth dean of Seoul University School of Law School and the ninth president of Seoul National University. The Chosun Ilbo newspaper reported on May 29, 1995 (10th edition no. 23041) that Gye-Jun Ryu had 106 descendants.
