USB to RS-485/RS-422 converter

[edit]

A USB to RS-485/RS-422 converter is a device that connects to a PC through the USB port. The device creates a communication port on the PC that can be accessed through a software program through the use of USB operating system drivers. This will allow the user to connect to an existing RS-485/RS-422 network. The user will now be able to communicate from the PC through the USB port to other electronic equipment connected on the RS-485/RS-422 network.

These devices are usually configurable through a jumper setting or dip switch on the PCB. Configurations that exists are RS-485, RS-422, enable/disable a termination resistor, enable/disable biasing resistors.
