In Malibu, California, once a year, there is a carnival called The Chili Cook-Off. The Chili Cook-Off has been going on around 26 years and happens every year on Labor Day Weekend. From Friday night to either Sunday or Monday, there are carnival rides, game booths, music, chili, and most of all, plenty of people ready to have a great time. Usually, Friday night is known “Malibu Night” because it is the time where all of the Malibu residents meet their friends at the carnival for a great end of summer night. While Friday is mostly for kids spending time at the carnival, Saturday is when the chili competition begins. People come and put their chili on display, and at the end of the Chili Cook-Off one chili chef takes home a cash grand prize as well as bragging rights until the next competition. Sunday is the when chili is truly enjoyed. People can buy some of the finest chili ever made through the local vendors attending. In addition, Sunday is the day where a car is raffled off. Cars like Hummers, BMW’s, Porsches, motorcycles, and even Mustangs went home with a very lucky winner. The Chili Cook-Off is so popular, that there are between 15,000 to 20,000 people excepted to come. Celebrities also often make cameo appearances at the cook off as well. Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie, Ray Ramano, Al Pachino, Pamela Anderson, Kid Rock, and Dylan and Cole Sprouse were just few of the many popular celebrities spotted during these festivities. The Chili Cook-Off is located at Pacific Coast Highway Malibu, CA 90265.
