Memaw [MEE-maw] is a term commonly used to describe a great grandmother. Sometimes, Meemo [MEE-mo] may be used with toddlers, and sometimes mid-aged children may still use this term. Although Mamaw is used as a term for grandmother, Memaw is used as a term for a grandmother, or on rare occasions, a mother. The known term Memaw dates back to the early 1900s, and is a very common term used today.
