But-Waan Festival new article content ... The But-Waan Festival is derived from the Butuanon word "Butwa" meaning to gather or to celebrate. The festival honors Saint Joseph the Carpenter, the Loving Father of Jesus Christ and Faithful Husband of the Virgin Mary. The Butuanons live in several place due to the flooding and unsuitable geographic landscape of the kingdom. The People live near the Banks of the Agusan River, prone to flood and high water level,the people transferred to one place to another. During the late 1500's Butuan's first patron saint was entitled to the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception not until 1622 the patron-ship was given to Sr. San Jose de Butuan.
