Some possible requirements for admin bots:

1. Must be open source

   Ensures that admin bots do what the bot owners say they do, and maintains a level of openness appropriate for a wiki

2. Owner must be an admin

   The individual who runs the admin bot account must be an admin him/herself. A non-admin may write the code, but only an admin should run it. Access to the admin tools requires trust, whether automated or not. (If the bot is to run on the toolserver, this is a non-issue.)

   Must check to see if an admin has requested its shutdown before every edit or admin action

   Never mind, apparently that had been fixed

3. Should not attempt to infer something non-trivial

   Interpretation by the bot should leave as little room for error as possible; it may be appropriate for a reversion bot to decide if an edit is vandalism or not, but not for an admin bot to decide if an edit is vandalism and use admin tools based on that decision. This clause may be ignored with explicit consensus to do so.

   Each task for the bot should be looked at and agreed upon by the wider community before going to WP:BRFA. Ie, more people need to comment on the bot then what happens at BRFA now. —— Eagle101^{Need help?} 05:13, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
