Rainbow Dash is a fictional character from the animated television series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (2010- 2019). She is one of the main characters in the show and is played by Ashleigh Ball. Created by Lauren Faust, Rainbow Dash is a female pegasus pony, who is known for her bravery, incredible speed, rainbow-colored mane and tomboyish personality. As part of the Mane 6, she represents the Element of Loyalty, one of the six Elements of Harmony that protect Equestria.[1]
Character Creation and Development
[edit]Rainbow Dash was created by Lauren Faust, and was inspired by her childhood toy, Firefly. Faust gave Rainbow Dash a cutie mark of a lightning bolt with three colors. Originally, Firefly had a cutie mark of two blue lightning bolts. Rainbow Dash had a simliar mane and tail like Firefly's.[2]
Character Overview
[edit]As a huge fan of the Wonderbolts, Rainbow Dash becomes a reservist member of the elite flying group in Testing Testing 1, 2, 3 and then a full member in Newbie Dash. Rainbow Dash maintains the weather and clears the skies in Ponyville. In Sonic Rainboom, Princess Celestia and Rarity think she is the best flier in all of Equestria. Rainbow Dash has a pet tortoise named Tank, which she got from Fluttershy in the episode May the Best Pet Win![3]
Cutie Mark
[edit]In Call of the Cutie, Rainbow Dash said she was the first in her class to get her cutie mark. She tells the Cutie Mark Crusaders in The Cutie Mark Chroncles of how she got her cutie mark. Her story is set in summer flight camp. She defends Fluttershy from boy bullies that call Rainbow Dash, "Rainbow Crash." One of the bullies, Hoops, already has his cutie mark and Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy don't. Rainbow Dash decides to challenge the two bullies to a flying Pegasus race and in the ensuing contest to find her passion for her speed and winning. As she goes through the race, Rainbow Dash performs her very first sonic rainboom and gets her cutie mark. However, Rainbow Dash just didn't gain her cutie mark, she unexpectedly triggered the events that would lead Fluttershy and her future friends in Ponyville to get their own cutie marks.[4]
