After completing his high school education, Cooney would eventually serve on board the USS Truett FF 1095.[2] He was active in the Navy from 1984 to 1988 and held a Secret clearance. Part of his responsibilities involved serving on his ship's SNOOPIE team. In his duties, Cooney had to recognize potential threats from the air or sea surface via radar, as well as be able to identify them from on deck with the naked eye. His service made him a part of the SSDF (Ships Self Defense Force) at Little Creek, VA. [3] With his interest in boxing, Cooney would later help to co-found the 8countnews.com website. The now retired website was devoted to boxing and mixed martial arts. [4] Cooney also wrote articles for magazines such as Boxing Digest and Premiere Round. [5] In 2005, he published the book titled, "Let's Talk Boxing," [6] which includes numerous interviews with some of the most well known legends from the sport. Cooney continues to host the podcast. "The Brad Cooney Podcast," [7], where he has interviewed accomplished personalities in the worlds of film, music, and politics. The podcast has also regularly featured contestants from the TV show, "The Voice," that is produced by the NBC television network. [8] A sampling of the show's guests from the past also include personalities such as Rosie Perez and Mickey Rourke. In more recent years, Cooney has taken an active role in video productions where he has held the roles of associate producer, cast member, and investigator. [9] He ventured into paranormal investigation in 2016, which led to him becoming affiliated with a home that has been featured in a two part documentary series known as, "The House In Between." [10] Part 1 of the two volume documentary was released in 2020 by Robot Ninja Media, and Part 2 came out subsequently in 2022. [11] Both documentaries were pioneered by Steve Gonsalves, who has been a regular cast member on the TV series, "Ghost Hunters," "Ghost Hunters Academy," and, "Ghost Nation." [12] Kendall Whelpton, who served as Director of Photography on, "Ghost Hunters," as well as on other paranormally themed shows, co-directed the dual documentaries with Gonsalves. [13] [14] Both Part 1 and Part 2 of, "The House In Between," documentaries include Cooney as a cast member and as an investigator. [15] Additional film projects that Cooney has been involved with as an associate producer are, "Lights Over Montgomery County," (2023), "The Woodmen," (2023), and, "Tahoe Joe 2," (2024). [16]
