Canon Dr (Andrew) Geoffrey Purves, PhD, BA (Hons), BArch (Hons), RIBA, FRIAS, FRSA, FIoD is a British born Architect (born 12 June 1944). After working 45 years in his own architectural practices (Geoffrey Purves Partnership and Purves Ash LLP) mainly in the North East of England, Purves is now acting as Consultant Architect. Purves is Chairman and Honorary Treasurer of the Architects Benevolent Society (ABS), Chairman of the Newcastle Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC), Chairman of Northumberland & Newcastle Society and Past Master of The Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects (WCCA) 2014-2015. Appointed Lay Canon of Newcastle Cathedral and Honorary Research Fellow of Durham University in 2010. Early life and education Purves was born in Newcastle upon Tyne where he attended Heaton Grammar School. He graduated with a BA (Hons) degree from Durham University and a BArch (Hons) from Newcastle University and later a PhD researching the design of primary health care buildings. Career Finalist in [[1]] New Town Housing Competition, which was subject of final year design thesis. Initially worked for Napper & Partners on a number of housing projects. Joined Brian Clouston & Partners developing an interest in buildings in landscape. Partner in charge of joint first prize winner in River Clyde Study and Ideas Competition 1974. Formed own practice in 1978. Major interest was in designing primary health care centres. Other principal buildings included significant parts of the Metro Centre, Gateshead and conservation architect for the Great North Museum: Hancock. Architect: Farrells Professional Activities

Personal life Married to Elizabeth Ann Purves since 1968, Purves continues to live in Kirkwhelpington where he is an active member of the village community and Churchwarden of St Bartholomew’s Church. They enjoy sailing off the west coast of Scotland.
