Crab juice is a fictional drink of apparent Middle Eastern origin (with a label showing its name in a fictional alphabet) from The Simpsons, from the episode "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson". Also a band "Dr Crabjuice" named after the famous drink.[1] Homer asks for a bowl of "Khlav Kalash" -- "no bowl -- stick'" replies the vendor -- and Homer eats the Khlav Kalash. He asks the vendor what he has to wash the taste out of his mouth. The foreign vendor offers him the choice of Mountain Dew or Crab Juice. Disgusted with the selection, Homer selects the "Crab Juice"[2] [3] and proceeds to drink well over a dozen cans.

Cultural References[edit]

When "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" was aired in German-speaking countries, the choice of beverages was changed to Mineral water or Crab juice ("Mineralwasser oder Krabbensaft").[4] Homer's disgust with the choice of Mineral water may reflect the translator's understanding that Homer's first choice of beverage would be beer, while water disgusts him (much like W. C. Fields).

Actual Use[edit]

The recipe for Prima Taste Singapore Chilli Crab uses (actual) Crab Juice in its preparation.[5] [6]
