Shall I AFD this as it is a poor article? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:03, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Rather let me have a go at adding info to it. There does seem to be some historical significance. And I have already linked a couple of articles to it :) Gbawden (talk) 12:05, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Exactly. So why not ask me to expand articles like Aangan rather than going straight to AFD? I've always supported the work you do on here. Given that most articles really need improvement and we have thousands of dubious articles, working together in good faith can only improve the website.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:21, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Sorry. I didn't check who the page creator was and when I saw your name I realised that I had probably made a mistake. I have been trying to de-orphan articles and when I came across Aangan it looked like other articles that are created and just dumped. So in trying to clean out the rubbish I AfD'd your article. Once again my apologies Gbawden (talk) 12:29, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
That's OK, thanks for withdrawing. I've created Template:Nasir Hussain. He seems a pretty notable director. There are a lot of undeveloped stubs for Hindi films though. I'm pretty sure most can be expanded. If you come across one in future can you let me know? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:43, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
On an additional note, any chance you could archive your talk page? It's a whopping 372kb and takes a while to save even on my state of the art PC!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:45, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
I have been meaning to do this. let me see if i can figure it out Gbawden (talk) 13:32, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Naval Station Durban[edit]

Just letting you know that I've started an article on Naval Station Durban. Basically all I have so far is a paragraph on the current upgrade efforts and another on the original construction of "Naval Base Durban" during WW2. The history in-between will need some more research effort. I'll see if I can find some useful material on my bookshelf - which mostly covers the Border War/Struggle era. Meanwhile you are of course more than welcome to add to the article. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:54, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! I will look in the books I have and add stuff on Monday when I am at the office with good internet Gbawden (talk) 06:13, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

I took a look at your sandbox - wow it's busy![edit]

The piece you have on SANDF Joint Ops looks almost ready for mainspace - once you add references of course. When you do take it to mainspace don't forget to add a note somewhere (a hatnote would probably be best) that the "Division" in the title does not refer to Division (military) but is used in the sense of "department". I hate how the SANDF is so sloppy with their abuse of terms that are supposed to have very specific meanings in a military context. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:53, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

I must really do a clean up :) I started stuff and left it when I realised I might not be able to meet GNG. Thanks - I will try reference it and move it. On another note - List of South African admirals - Yeah or Nay? The aussies have a similar list and I thought it might be useful Gbawden (talk) 09:57, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Greetings and... reply[edit]

Greetings Gbawden, thanks for your note regarding the proposed deletion of Slipstream – The Best of British Jazz-Funk. I wasn't particularly concerned about the proposed deletion, especially as I'm not too sure what the current policy for compliation albums is. However, precisely the following item on my Watchlist was another compilation album, Festen er ikke over... det er kake igjen, which you seem to have no objection to. At least the former has a reference, while the latter has none whatsoever. Am I missing something here? Regards, --Technopat (talk) 09:18, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Greetings again. Thanks for your reply. I agree with you that the label's motives in releasing the compilation are as you state, but that would certainly be applicable in both cases. Many, if not most of the bands included in the British compilation do actually do justice to the title, so I would argue that that compilation is relevant in the UK context–at least–just as the other would be in the Norwegian context–at least. However, as I mentioned above, I'm not up on the latest policy regarding compilation albums. Regards, --Technopat (talk) 09:41, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Not sure that a compilation album's notability is affected by the fact that it consists of works by one or several artists. On the other hand, regarding relevance, the British album is included in The Blackwell Guide to Soul Recordings, which possibly tips the balance slightly more in favour of "keep": Part Nine: Great Britain & the European Continent - Basic Recordings. I'll add that ref. to the article now. Regards, --Technopat (talk) 07:03, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Tony Nelssen speedy deletion request[edit]

It appears that you flagged this article for speedy deletion, which was apparently removed by a subsequent reviewer. However, I want to make sure that your concern was adequately addressed.

The citations in the article represent a small number of the over 700 hits returned by a Google search for "site:azcentral.com "Tony Nelssen"" AZCentral is the online portal for the Arizona Republic, the newspaper of record for the State of Arizona, and is but one of many sources that list references to Councilman Nelssen.

This seems to be in keeping with the Notability criteria you cited, specifically a "major local political figure who has received significant press coverage."

Notification: speedy deletion nomination of Graeme Moore - Bay of Plenty Rugby[edit]

Hi Gbawden,

I have tried to make the "Graeme Moore - Bay of Plenty Rugby" article which on 9 February 2015 I am notified that you nomiated for speedy deletion.

Further to this I am notified that on 10 February 2015 user Seicer deleted the page due to A7: Article about a real person, which does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject.

I have tried to be in contact with Seicer to restore the page, but have not had a reply yet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Seicer/Archive_21).

Looking at the Citeria for speedy deletion, the A7 criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#A7).

The article aims to show Graeme Moore is significant for his acheivements in rugby, our countries national sport. He has achieved excellence in this field being the highest try-scoring player in Bay of Plenty rugby union history, has been nominated as elite by his inclusion in the Bay of Plenty Rugby Dream Team, and has performed at an international level for example scoring a try against the British and Irish lions on 10 August 1971.

Can you please help with restoring the article?

Regards, SeanA.NZ (talk) 20:58, 18 February 2015 (UTC)SeanA.NZ

Hi Thanks for your reply, it is most helpful.

If I can argue the case that he his noteworthy it will be good to have an article for him, otherwise I appreciate your moderation. I had not read the appropriate WP:NRU and WP:RLN, thanks for bringing them to my attention.

While Graeme Moore is locally renown for being the highest try-scoring player in Bay of Plenty rugby union history, it is his inclusion in the 10 August 1971 squad to play the lions that may justify is notabilty. The British & Irish Lions are formed of four of the 17 High Performance Unions; England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. A history of tours by the Lions to the colonies spans back into the heritage of the game, with a first tour to NZ in 1904. These tours provided high performance tests, pre-dating the rugby world cup that only started in 1987 [1]. Here is a history of games played during tours of the Lions to NZ, dating back to 1950 [2].

BREIF HISTORY

  • Rugby, while played since about 1820, did not have the rules not written down until 1840 [3].
  • 1884, the first New Zealand touring side to travel abroad went to New South Wales.
  • August 15, 1903 first international test match New Zealand touring side met Australia on the Sydney Cricket ground.
  • 1904, The second international test was a home match the following year when they defeated Britain at Athletic Park, Wellington, by 9-3. The British team were touring Australia and despite them being unbeaten in Australia, they lost two and drew one in New Zealand. They also lost to an unofficial Maori XV at Rotorua.
  • 1905 tour, the title of 'The Originals' was bestowed on the 1905/6 team to tour Britain, France and Canada, which arrived home to an official welcome befitting conquering heroes. [4]

Does Graeme Moore's inclusion in the opposition against a team comprised of four High Performance Unions in an international test, as part of the New Zealand defence, in a tour that can be seen as a pre-runner to the Rugby World Cup, include him under section 1.a inlined below?

A rugby union person is presumed notable if he or she has played for, coached or administered: 1. a "High Performance Union" at any time(see Note 1) or another test nation during an appearance at the men's Rugby World Cup(see Note 2).

Note 1: "High Performance Unions" for men are: Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Romania, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Tonga, United States, and Wales.[8] Women do not have this criterion. Swings (rapper)[edit]

Hi, I noticed a page I had created had been AfD'd by you and was subsequently deleted. I'm just a little confused. Carlos Galvan and Swings are different people. Why they were in the same AfD I don't really get, but while Carlos's notability was not evident, Swing's definitely was. He clearly fulfills WP: MUSIC with multiple chart hits and independent media coverage. I did not receive notice of the AfD and have to say I'm a little dumbfounded it was closed with only one other point of discussion. @Stifle: I don't quite know how this happened and am confused. If someone could clarify how they ended up in the same AfD as what would appear to be one person, I'd appreciate it. Asdklf; (talk) 17:55, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Soteria page[edit]

Hi there,

I have an alert about the page we are trying to set up.

I dont see how it is being promotional when a lot of companies have pages and they also write about what they do etc.

A sentence like this "Soteria is a South African based mass cloud storage solution" is not promotional and purely factual?

So at least some of those sentences should be allowed to stay.

Hi Gbawden-

I hope this finds you well. My query to you is how the references for the egg donation topic you have edited were determined and agreed upon. It was my understanding that Wikipedia was not for any sort of self promotion yet I see more than one egg donation agency listed within the reference section with links back to their web site.

There are other non profit organizations that are educational and not self promotion. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine as well as Parents via Egg Donation are both educational resources that Wikipedia could gather accurate information for this topic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marnad1963 (talkcontribs) 15:59, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Nomination of Eric Ronald Inglis for deletion[edit]

Hi Gbawden. I notice this Wiki article has already been deleted? Could this be reversed? I am currently supplying the Illfracombe committee with information about their Veterans that went to war, for the 100th year since WW1 ANZAC day tribute and most of the information on that page would be very handy for them. How do we go about getting it back up? It was a properly referenced and cross referenced article. Could you provide me some feedback on this if there were issues? Thanks for your help.

Your common.css page[edit]

Hi; I notice that in User:Gbawden/common.css you have the CSS rule

.ambox-Orphan{display: inherit !important;}

- please note that there is an error in this (almost certainly copied from an old version of Template:Orphan#Visibility) which causes incorrect display in some browsers.

To check this, visit this page and look at the second bullet (the one that precedes the text "This article is an orphan ..."). If this bullet is not in the same alignment as the other four, but displaced to the left, you can fix it by altering inherit to table in the CSS rule mentioned earlier. If that doesn't work either, alter it to block.

Template:Orphan#Visibility has been amended. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:21, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Tutu puoane[edit]

Hello Gbawden, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Tutu puoane, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: received several awards from major South African jazz competitions.is an assertion of importance sufficient to avoid A7. Hollywood Storage Center of Thousand Oaks[edit]

Hello Gbawden - Per your proposed deletion of Hollywood Storage Center of Thousand Oaks, I have made the following major edits. 1) Edited down opening paragraph and included reference to founding of the company by Spoony Singh the founder of the Hollywood Wax Museum. The Hollywood Storage Center of Thousand Oaks is referenced in the Wikipedia article for Spoony Singh in the "Early years and career" section, third paragraph, last sentence (I have also included reference to a Malibu Times article for this information). In addition, I have included a sentence mentioning the US Post Office at the location and electronic recycling (with reference to the Thousand Oaks Acorn articles). Lastly, I have deleted all other information. Please advise of any other recommended changes. If acceptable, please remove the Proposed Deletion. Best Regards, Momwriter

False amend to page - advice?[edit]

Hello Gbawden, you've given me good advice previously so wanted to flag something I've spotted that I'd like to get to the bottom of. On the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_world_eight-ball_champions the 1997 champion has been changed to the wrong winner. It should be Kevin Treanor of Scotland, as indeed it was until very recently. The article [5] confirms the real name and year of the winner. Does Wikipedia allow you to check who made this amend and change it back again? Thanks, Graememcg Graememcg (talk) 14:22, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Dear Gbawden, I appreciate your hard work but I am convinced, that the article IndiaFilings should not be deleted, because the company has featured in a number of major Indian newspapers like Economic Times, Times of India. In addition, the Governor of the Indian state, where it is headquartered, has praised IndiaFilings achievements and recognized its contributions. Nevertheless, I consider that the article is still a work in progress and can be improved with additional references as I discover them. Oshkosh M1070[edit]

Hello Gbawden,

Regarding your redirect of the Oshkosh M1070 page I had started work on... I'd have appreciated a little communication before you did this. You'd have saved me quite a bit of unnecessary work... I'm moving the M1070 content from the generic Heavy Equipment Transporter System page. I raised this plan on the relevant Talk page. FYI, there is no such thing as the Heavy Equipment Transporter System as far as the US Army are concerned, tank transporters are just tagged heavy equipment transporters nowadays, and somebody at some point in time will have called the M1070 and M1000 semi-trailer a system... There is no program of record as such. I could go on but I won't... The HETS page currently appears to be a tenuous cobble together of US Army tank transporters..., one of which already has a separate more detailed page as well. As the M1070 is current, high profile, and worthy (in my opinion) of a separate Wiki page (other Oshkosh products have one) I thought I'd create one. I started work on that yesterday. But before I'd had the time to SS&S it had been redirected...(effectively deleted...) A bit of comms would have been appreciated, as I said. I may not be following every Wiki rule on content that's ever been invented, and quite honestly I doubt I ever will. I'd rather tinker and work on enhancing Wiki than read it's rule book. I may be doing it the wrong way, but I still say, a quick piece of Talk would have been far easier, and saved me a load of extra work. I'm starting on the project again later today.Wolpat (talk) 11:29, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
