Biography

[edit]

Origin

[edit]

The band's origins lie in jam sessions in Benjamin and Anders' shared flat in the summer of 2016. Out of love for Queens of the Stone Age 's first album , they started playing similar riffs . This music is called desert rock . Because there is no desert in Norway and the band members grew up near tundra areas, the band also calls the music they play tundra rock. Once bassist Kristiaan and drummer Severin were found, the band was complete.

In 2017, the band entered the studio to record several singles . While they were waiting for the singles to be completed, a demo of the song There is Nothing New Under the Sun had already been released . This was shared in April 2017 via their newly created Facebook page and could be listened to via SoundCloud .

For their first performance in May 2017, the band members had to come up with a name. The name Slomosa comes from jokes the band members made about being slow ( slow motion ), and guitarist Anders was also a fan of bands that ended in a, such as Pantera and Sepultura . By combining these elements, the band name Slomosa was created.

First live performances

[edit]

Slomosa's first concert took place on May 11, 2017 in rock café Hulen in Bergen , which claims to be the oldest rock club in Northern Europe . Here they played once at a monthly music evening called Torsdagrock (Thursday rock). On this evening Slomosa played together with Clone, The Other End, Pollution and New Age Disco Boys. The band's first headlining show was played at Victoria Cafe & Pub, also in Bergen, in September 2017.

Debut album

[edit]

In September/October 2018, the band entered the studio to record the songs for their debut album . The songs were recorded with producer Eirik Sandvik at Polyfon Studio and mixed at Marinius Studio, both in Bergen.  Two of the band members would no longer live to see the release of the album as band members. Tor Erik Bye joined the band in 2019, he had grown up in Vossevangen with Benjamin and Anders, with whom he had already played in various other line-ups. He replaced Anders, who had other priorities and moved to Oslo . Bassist Marie Moe, from the band Razika, was asked to join the band in 2019, after the aforementioned band had stopped. She replaced Kristian who had suffered nerve damage in his finger .

Their debut single Horses was released on October 24, 2019 . The debut album was to be released in April 2020, but this was postponed to August of that year due to the coronavirus pandemic . There is Nothing New Under the Sun was released in April of that year as the second single from the new album.  The third single followed in June, called In My Mind's Desert .  The eight-song album was released on August 28, 2020 by Apollon Records. Due to measures taken in connection with the corona pandemic, only limited concerts could be given for promotion that year. Jard Hole replaced drummer Severin in December 2020, who wanted to focus on other projects.

In 2022, new pressings of the album were released through Apollon Records with a photo of the new band members on the back cover. A limited vinyl version was released the same year via Hassle Records.  In 2023 there was a reissue via Apollon Records, on which the songs 'Just To Be' and 'On And Beyond' were renamed to Traktor and Psykonaut respectively.

Album promotion in Europe

[edit]

The band's first performance outside Norway was at the Deserfest Belgium festival in Trix , Antwerp in September 2021.  The year 2022 took the band to virtually all countries of Western Europe . In the spring, the band toured as support act for Stöner through Ireland , the United Kingdom , Belgium , the Netherlands , Germany , Luxembourg , France , Spain , Switzerland and Austria .  During their summer tour they visited some of these countries again and performed in Portugal for the first time . They performed at the Hellfest and Stoned From the Underground festivals, among others .

They played at the festivals Up in Smoke, Keep it Low in Germany and Into the Void in Leeuwarden , among others .  Following that tour was the "Heavy to the max" tour with Sasquatch through various European countries, where they visited Italy for the first time .

In between the aforementioned tours, the band also performed in their own country, for example the band gave a performance in a record bar  where they played acoustically and used unusual instruments such as the banjo .  On November 15, 2022, the band performed a symphonic version of their song Psykonaut together with the Orkesteret Fossegrimen .  Norgesturné followed in the spring of 2023: an extensive Norwegian tour.

Second album

[edit]

In March 2023, Slomosa signed a new recording contract with Stickman Records with the aim of releasing the band's second album. The recording of the second album took place in early 2023 at Polyon Studio in Bergen.  The second album is scheduled for release in 2024.  On July 21, 2023, the band released a single from their future second album. The song, called Cabin Fever , was accompanied by the band's first music video .  The band toured Europe again in July and August 2023. They played their first headline show outside Norway in Dresden .  They played at Alcatraz Metal Festival and the:Burg-Herzberg-Festival, among others .

The fall of 2023 saw Slomosa as the opening act for King Buffalo on their European tour.  Following these concerts, they were the opening act for Elder for much of their European tour. This series of concerts brought the band to Denmark for a concert for the first time.

In February 2024, Rice was the second single released by the band ahead of the second album.  This was followed by a short tour of three days, including some shows in Sweden as support act for Skraeckoedlan .  After previously playing at Desertfest in Antwerp, London and Berlin, the band did so in 2024 as headliner at the first edition of Desertfest Oslo.

In April 2024, the band announced an autumn tour under the name Habit of the Tundra that will take place later that year. The tour is together with the band Greenleaf , Psychlona will act as support act.
