Peer Review/Copyedit

Hey!

I was looking through the list of people willing to peer review or copyedit articles and I saw that you were willing to copyedit an article of any subject under Military History. Currently, the Leopard 2E article is going through a featured article candidacy period and although it has various amount of support, one editor has opposed until it has been copy edited by a 'fresh set of eyes'. I wanted to ask if you'd be open to looking over the article and copy editing any problems with the prose that you see - I have spent some time myself to take out redundant language that I included when I first wrote it and work on the prose, but I'm sure that a more experienced editor coudl do more than the article than I could. In any case, thank you for your time! JonCatalán (talk) 14:33, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you! I truly appreciate it - it's the first time they've asked me to get one the articles I've nominated copyedited by a third party editor. JonCatalán (talk) 14:38, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for considering it! JonCatalán (talk) 17:02, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Discrimination

I wish to make a complaint about In23065. He has called me a rat and has said he is going to lay rat poison down to get rid of me. He has also been rude to Mavis789 by calling her a liar. I want him sorted and I don't think he should be allowed in any further discussion to do with Big Brother or any of its editing.--92.8.212.24 (talk) 23:50, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Caught you i didn't call you a rat i called Mavis789 a rat meaning that you are Mavis789 thank you very much and stop trying to rig the vote your worse than Robert mugabe.
By what you said, you were making out as if you were saying it to me, not Mavis789. I have no idea who Mavis789 is. in your quote you said "HE". Mavis789 is a woman. I just caught you out. trying to make out that some wikipedia users are the same people. And you have just admitted yourself that you called someone a rat which is against wikipedia rules. Caught you out again.--92.8.212.24 (talk) 00:04, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Well EyeSerene will check the your ip and Mavis789 and if they compare then there you go. In23065 (talk) 00:08, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
fine then. do what you want.--92.8.212.24 (talk) 00:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
just find it funny that your both on at the same time, Davis is a new member that added there comment to the discussion less that 4 minutes after there registration, Davis has exactly the same views as you, Davis lied about her/his IP address, Davis lied about the registration date and you are defending Davis. All adds up really, And i dont like cheats and liers and to me a person that does that = a rat. In23065 (talk) 00:25, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
And im sure one of Eyeserenes main aims is democracy and it is one of mine as well. In23065 (talk) 00:28, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Davis, whos davis. i find it funny you're on the same time as me. and the word RAT appears again. Did you have official training to become a bully.--92.8.212.24 (talk) 00:32, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Who did you get your official training off Hitler, Starlin, Saddam Husen or was it Robert Mugabe. In23065 (talk) 00:37, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
HA HA HA. Very funny.--92.8.212.24 (talk) 00:43, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Both of you read WP:CIVIL, WP:AGF, and kindly don't argue on my talk page. Grrr. EyeSerenetalk 11:52, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Can you tell me if these 2 are the same people. In23065 (talk) 12:06, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I can't - I don't have checkuser access. The editing patterns do suggest a circumstantial link, but it could just be coincidence. I doubt there's enough evidence to get a checkuser though. However, this shouldn't derail your discussion, as whoever closes it (I'd recommend a neutral party) should take any possible vote-stacking into account. EyeSerenetalk 12:24, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I would like to appologise for argueing on your page. I dont know about in23065 though.--92.17.191.39 (talk) 19:42, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Copy-tasting on Albert Jacka

One of our newer and very promising editors, Abraham, B.S., has asked me whether Albert Jacka is yet good enough for GA nomination. As, unlike you, I have little experience of GA, I was hoping you might be able to give him an informed opinion. If this is an imposition, please say so :) Thanks in advance, --ROGER DAVIES talk 03:43, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Map for Tractable

EyeSerene, I've found several good maps of Polish-Canadian movements during Operation Tractable here (particularly among the sections used as references in the article). Would you be able to remake a few of them over the next little while (I'm in Miami until July 19, so I'm in no particular rush). When I've got those done, I should be ready to head for the FAC-Slaughterhouse. In particular, I'd appreciate the maps on "2nd SS Panzer Korps Counterattacks" and "The Encirclement" to be used. If you have any spare time in the next week, that'd be great. All the best, Cam (Chat) 03:47, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Napoleon

Thanks very much for reviewing N and amending, I've done most of the relatively major changes and put comments on review page. Tom (talk) 20:03, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

No worries have relinked. On diacritics, I'm guessing there must have been consensus established regarding the title Battle of Verrières Ridge. There was a discussion I wasn't involved in several years ago regarding the article title Talk:Napoleon_I_of_France/Archive_1#His_name and I've implemented consistency from that. I also saw scope for inconsistency in the wp:Mos but in this case there is probably at least one type of consistency: Battle of Verrières Ridge may normally be known by English speakers with the diacritic whilst Napoleon is nearly always spelt by English speakers without the diacritic. Is there anything now stopping it from being listed GA? Tom (talk) 12:02, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Thankyou and for the new recommendations. I'll be taking it to peer review asap. Tom (talk) 16:56, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Battle of Tory Island

Hi Eye, I don't remember if you have already looked over this article but Tony has requested more copyeditors for the article at FAC and you have always been one of the most helpful and reliable of that breed. If you have time would you mind looking over the article for me at some point? As always, anything you need just ask.--Jackyd101 (talk) 16:05, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou very much!--Jackyd101 (talk) 16:12, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I really appreciate that, you've gone over it with a fine tooth comb! Like I said, anything I can do for you please let me know. The Nile is definately on my list but its such a big job I won't be able to get to it for some time; in fact I am so busy right now that this will probably be my last FA project until after September. I will get there eventually however.--Jackyd101 (talk) 15:36, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
As always, thankyou very, very much for your copyedit here, the article has now passed FAC. Regards--Jackyd101 (talk) 17:16, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Albert Jacka

Thank you very much for having a look at the article on Albert Jacka, and addressing the issues that I need to fix up or correct. I will work on these areas shortly, and hopefully I can nominate the article to be assessed for GA status. Again, thank you, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 00:26, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi EyeSerene, I just thought I would give you an update on the Albert Jacka article. I have addressed (or at least attempted to) most of the issues you presented to me except for one; expanding the early and later life sections. I do not have the sources at the moment to expand these sections much more then what they are now, but I do intend (in the near future hopefully!) to purchase a copy of Jacka VC: Australian Hero by Robert Macklin, and am praying that it has some good information on these two areas so I can get it to GA. I was also hoping that when I have done this you could have another look at the article for me, and if you think it appears to be good enough I will nominate it for GA? But that, of course, is up to you. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 00:36, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Quick request

I've spent some time reviewing Kimberella, and I believe that it is good to go for a GA approval.

It is, however, my first review. Out of sheer paranoia, a second set of eyes would be great before putting the Good Housekeeping Article seal of approval on it. SDY (talk) 20:53, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Next RfA

Hi, EyeSerene :-) Since you requested it, I'd like to inform you that I'm planning on running for adminship again (again nomm'd, not self-nominated) in mid-November. By that time I shall hopefully be more ready, and I look forward to your input there; whether it be opposing or supporting. Cheers, and have a nice day! —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 04:10, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Articles needing copy edit (tentative name)

Hello there!

I have begun laying the groundwork for a new WikiProject that has a very simple goal, to improve Wikipedia by dealing with the articles tagged for copy edit, and I am wondering if you are interested in helping me start it. This project is not a clone of WP:LOCE because we will not deal with requests for review (that is currently handled by our good friends over at Peer Review).

I expect that this will be a relaxed, happy and casual WikiProject, because participants will be able to take things at their own pace and use the project page to ask other participants for help. The project proposal is here, and I have created an almost-functional project page in my userspace here.

There are now over 4000 articles needing copy edit, and very, very few people working on them, so any help, however small, is appreciated. If you are interested, please sign up at the proposal page. Once we have enough people, I will shift the project page, along with its subpages from my userspace into the Wikipedia namespace. For now we can use this section of my talk page to discuss the direction and details of the project, and, of course, its name. *grin*

Cheers! --Samuel Tan 12:27, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Your recent moves

Why did you capitalize "em","in",and "da" in your moves? You said that they were per WP:NC,but "em" is a later part of "them","in" is a preposition, and "da" is an article. Please re-consider. XxJoshuaxX (talk) 15:41, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

so much for good faith. I can't be bothered with this any more, life is too short. I agree, and the editor concerned has agreed to talk out any proposed moves on the article talk page in future. However, I'll wait until tomorrow before moving them back - it's not urgent, and I refuse to fan the flames ;) EyeSerenetalk 20:34, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Please stop moving back the "Someone to Watch over Me" articles

The consensus of capitalizing the word over only applies to the "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" articles due to the author's intentional capitalization of the word "over". However, the same does not apply to the "Someone to Watch over Me" articles, as the "over"s are not intentionally capitalized. Thank you, Xnux the Echidna 16:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

BEFORE YOU REVERT THE ARTICLES BACK, let's discuss this. The "over" shouldn't be capitalized for simple reasons: our caitalization guideline (WP:CAPS) supports it, and the external links' spelling of the titles weren't written with our capitalization guidelines in mind. That being said, the "over" isn't intentionally capitalized, which appears to be the trump card for several articles such as Guns N' Roses and the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. There are a LOT of articles that go against media capitalization (mainly "out of" articles, such as "She's out of My Life", Long Road out of Eden, but also Bridge over Troubled Water and Crash: Mind over Mutant). This is okay, because compliance with the Manual of Style is important to credibility. Xnux the Echidna 16:42, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I apologize for disrupting Wikipedia; that was not my intention. Personally, I don't see why this has become such a huge issue, but apparently even guidelines are no longer trustworthy O_o. Anyway, there is no evidence that the author has either intentionally capitalized or intentionally not capitalized the "over", as the movie poster shows the title in all caps. So, we have a choice between the guidelines or what the external links say. As I have expressed before, I believe that the external links aren't a good enough reason to ignore the guidelines, so I moved the articles back. If the issue is brought up again, I'll discuss at the talk page again before moving them back. Xnux the Echidna 17:22, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Impalement Arts GAR

Thank you very much for adding to my increasing faith in the GAR process by offering your services as a copyeditor. I went through one GAR that was basically a circle-j-rk Taj Mahal. It was so devestating I stopped being a Wiki edtior. But my more recent experience is Meher Baba (I was pulled out of retirement like a reluctant gunslinger) where the GAR gang got involved, offered encouragement, and most important, pitched in to help the article to GA standard. Such efforts by you and other GARers is something I appreciate.--Nemonoman (talk) 16:36, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank You!

Hey there, just wanted to say thank you for responding to me. The idiots that did most of this vandalizing haven't even looked at me today, i think they are afraid I'm going to knock 'em both out! ha ha Just so you know, the account I used to do my work on was Snuffereet, which since has been indefinitely blocked because of all the actions. If you look at the stuff I would edit from that name, the SERIOUS stuff usually is kept but the silly stuff was from the ones that broke into my account and put stupid things there. I usually like to edit heavy metal music, symphonic metal, and lots of professional wrestling. But it's hard to do when you have numbskulls breaking in and putting things there to get you in trouble. I left this account open because it was the one I caught the guys in the act with, so I wanted to write to someone and Mr. Powers seemed to be the one I figured to go with first. If you want to, you can block this account and maybe TRY to get Snuffereet back to editing, I promise there won't be anything stupid there anymore. I still take most of the blame for this because I myself have invented my own language and the ones I've taught some words to (one of them being ba-limp, which they find utterly humorous) but until I become rich and famous for this language, it should NOT be on Wikipedia!! So I will let you know when I'm on youtube with lessons in my language so you can have a good laugh, until then, I hope none of these words are on Wiki anymore! Please write me back and let me know anything else. Right now I gotta get back to work! :) Have fun and thanks for listening! Those Kids (talk) 23:39, 24 July 2008 (UTC) (forgot to sign it!)

Whew. That long delay had me worried. =] Naw, it's not you. I can't see a solution to an open site like this (much as I'd like one) to keep out the kooks & POV-pushers, & I'm inclined to let the consensus deal with it; if that's all it is, at least they're being marginally constructive. It's the clowns who think "poop" is so much fun. (There must be a psych paper in there, somewhere.... ;)) I suspect we all get occasional impulses to put up things that strike us funny; I guess the diff is, you put it on the talk page if you can, or on your own userpage, if you can. (I didn't design funny userboxes for other people to see as much as for me, & if nobody else gets the "practical pistol" joke, or why I want to smack diNozzo, I can live with it.)
Can you say long-winded? ;) How is it you're on at this unholy hour? (Come to think of it, why am I? ;D) Or isn't it so late, there? TREKphiler hit me ♠ 10:54, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

I try to add the templates to redlink talk pages, as I find 'em or on new pages patrol {now & then}, & occasional stubs, & if I create a page, lifting 'em off existing pages, so somebody else doesn't have to; with a month backlog just in new pages...how's it ever all gonna get done? Daniels (ST:E) was a timetraveller, so "the future", "City" was around 1935 (don't tell anybody I don't recall the date, I'll have to change my username ;D), & Data (STNG) is a well-known dork (something about TV/film writers, they always insist on androids being linguistic &/or social morons, despite being able to otherwise cope with colloquial English). Most later fans'd just do the scrollover, get "Daniels", "City" & not even need to look to know "that must be Data". ;D (I think "G2" fans may be more connected to the "universe"; I know I watched them all. Not non-canon much, & virtually no fanfic.) And since now I can tell Magnum yes, I'll sign off. It's been a treat. Call back anytime. Cheers. TREKphiler hit me ♠ 12:35, 25 July 2008 (UTC) (P.S. Too many words?

Is it constructive to present this draft here? If so, are you willing to suggest a way to make the prospective posting more succinct, less wordy? Does this help you understand how Nick Dowling contributed to that scenario in which I alone have been cast in the role of enigmatic troublemaker? If so, good -- a step in the right direction at last. If not, that could still be a good thing if it helps you discern how you can help me figure out what I can do to move beyond today's impasse?

I hesitate to add this to the talk page at Hyūga class helicopter destroyer for fear that someone will complain that it has "too many words." In a context which arises before I posted my initial edit to that article's second paragraph, it becomes possible to begin to appreciate what's gone so very wrong as the result of an unthinking reliance on Jane's Fighting Ships and Global Security.org. An unmindful insistence on what is published in a reference book without giving due weight to consequences which flow from the Japanese context leads inexorably to mistakes in some instances.
Wikipedia's current treatment of JDS Hyūga implicates deep-rooted paradigms based on premises which effectively function to exclude or excise crucial issues from the body of the article; and this becomes a defect when it affects significant content which remains otherwise inextricable in reality. Relying solely on English-language naval ship catalogs, the edit history reveals how otherwise credible edits and edits have thwarted, deleted or blocked, thus stunting this subject's development -- see Talk:Hyūga class helicopter destroyer#Article name
Personally, of course, I don't care what the article about JDS Hyūga is named, nor do I care about the terminology used to describe this vessel -- but I'm persuaded that WP:NPOV expects us all to care very much about the "why" which informs whatever name or terminology is selected.
Although generally valued as highly credible resources, Jane's Fighting Ships and Global Security.org promote systemic bias in at least this one instance because their congruent terminology derives from primary sources bearing the imprimatur of the Japanese government. As such, reliance on this "gold standard" for descriptive terminology relating to Japanese naval ships is defensible, and any reasoned consensus based on such standards is also defensible; however, neither can be considered determinative. There is an inherent caveat in reliance on the imprimatur of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force and the newly formed Ministry of Defense (Japan). When the logical progeny of such reliance produce deleterious effects in Wikipedia, this subtle cancer mandates giving more than lip-service to WP:V and WP:NPOV.
As you may know, the Constitution of Japan prohibits "aircraft carriers"; and therefore the Japanese quite sensibly identify the JDS Hyūga with a unique, non-aircraft carrier name. In Japan, if ducks were prohibited by the Japanese Constitution, then something which waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, and behaves like a duck would be sensibly given a unique non-duck name. As it relates to use of the term "aircraft carrier," this unique bias is informed by the constitution which was imposed during the post-war occupation by the Americans; and it, along with many other salutatory aspects of the Constitution, has been embraced by subsequent generations of Japanese.
Among the Japanese, the practical decision-making which sometimes calls for a prudent substitution of flexible notions of "fiction" for "fact" is recorded across the span of centuries. This aspect of Japanese history and culture need not intrude into this Wikipedia article about the Hyūga except when an otherwise useful fiction is proffered as sufficient rationale for devaluing, denying, and deleting edits and citations (consistent with WP:V) which state that JDS Hyūga is an aircraft carrier with another name.
Sdsds construes the phenomenon in terms of a familiar line from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet -- in that passage in which Juliet muses about "that which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet". In my view, this specific quotation does capture the essence of a very important aspect of this somewhat complicated issue.
Perhaps a more apt illustrative exchange is to be found in Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew in that scene in which Petruccio looks at the sun and defies his new wife to disagree when he identifies it as the moon -- especially in that passage which begins, "I say it is the moon ...
In that Wikipedia article about the first of the Hyūga-class vessels, I would hope to make a constructive contribution by re-casting this controversy using medical terminolgy:
In oncology, the metastasis of cancer is conventionally described as insidious or "developing so gradually as to be well-established before becoming apparent." It is also well-known to be pernicious or "highly injurious or destructive." It is unfortunate that criticism of Wikipedia has not yet encompassed the oncological model, but it is arguably true that the metastasis of systemic bias, like cultural bias elsewhere, is insidious, pernicious and sometimes invasive.
Prior to this, the non-NPOV problems in Hyūga class helicopter destroyer have escaped a thorough examination. The thin record of postings in the initial section of the talk page suggests a nascent pattern of thwarting discussion and inquiry; and the subsequent record on that talk page confirms this unwanted hypothesis.
Across the arc of talk page exchanges amongst potential contributors and others, the consequences of intense, concerted resistance made it impossible even to reach a threshold from which to begin parsing aspects of this non-NPOV cancer. Such illustrative "consensus" becomes a powerful element of proof -- a multi-faceted demonstration of an undetected, highly persistent, insidious and pernicious problem.
Initial examination of this suspect article included a complete review of the edit history, including scrutiny of relevant external links which were deleted without any efforts to incorporate plausibly useful data.
An ameliorative edit was initiated. This involved one sentence only, supported by an in-line citation with an external link to a credible source. The talk page record reveals that this precisely-targeted intervention was reverted twice without substantive discussion. The edit encountered further resistance which blocked access to any threshold from which to begin to address the unacknowledged bias which remains the article's pervasive flaw. --Tenmei (talk) 05:57, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Unwelcome good advice

As time passes, I begin to appreciate more and more the mind at work behind the following paragraph -- and in that context, I've added emphasis to the sentences which I so very much dislike precisely because their seeming validity is beginning to become demonstrable:

  • Spin it how you like, this is a textbook example of disruptive editing. There's absolutely zero evidence that Nick has behaved with anything less than complete propriety throughout, and your refusal to accept the verdict of your peers is digging you into an ever-deeper hole. Perhaps you're the innocent victim of a Nick Dowling-led MilHist conspiracy... or perhaps your proposal is wrong. I've no real desire to keep this unproductive thread alive by posting here again, but please take some advice: don't be a fanatic, stop disrupting this article, and find something else to work on. In blunt, crass terms, I've been screwed ... but it really doesn't register in any meaningful degree as far as you're concerned, because you don't see -- you can't see -- what happens outside your purview.

I've done nothing for which I have any reason to be sorry, but especially in the bullets which precede the excerpt above, I can begin to see how it is easy to construe my words and my actions in that way. This is simultaneously grim and dispiriting and it is no less a renewed cause for bitterness mixed with anger. Nothing has developed as I thought it would since I first exhibited temerity (and naivité) by adding a single sentence to an article with no cited references and no in-line citations. The one short sentence I added was in fact supported by an easily verifiable citation with a link to the original source -- and yet, despite my unquestioned compliance with WP:V, the edit was reverted without any congruent effort to explain or proffer supporting citations. I can't believe I'm the one who is labeled as disruptive? Some things we learn the hard way; and what I'm learning here is hard indeed.

Let me ask you to explain one phrase, please -- what did you mean by "an unproductive thread." --06:02, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Repeating, please: What is "an unproductive thread." In the same vein, what are factors which would conventionally lead to closing a threaad at WP:AN/I? I reckon that I'm missing something which is so painfully obvious that it's hard to believe that I just don't "get it." --Tenmei (talk) 09:21, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Request for mediation

EyeSerene -- I have filed a request for mediation at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Hyūga class helicopter destroyer. Of course, you were not identified amongst the relevant parties:

Involved parties

  1. Tenmei (talk · contribs), filing party
  2. BillCJ (talk · contribs)
  3. Nick Dowling (talk · contribs)

Assent from the following need not be a factor in the decision to accept this dispute for mediation; but perhaps these contributors might consider themselves as parties because of their participation in creating the talk page record.

  1. Buckshot06 (talk · contribs)
  2. Parsecboy (talk · contribs)
  3. Bellhalla (talk · contribs)
  4. Optigan13 (talk · contribs)
  5. Coldmachine (talk · contribs), mediator
  6. Sdsds (talk · contribs), mediator

The step-by-step instructions for filing a request for mediation did not explain that I needed to notify others;[1] but Nick Dowling's notice here implies that I have a responsibility to remedy that oversight without further delay.

At this point, Nick Dowling, Buckshot06 and Parsecboy have already agreed to mediation. It's up to the others to decide what, if anything, each wants to do.

In any event, it's up to me to thank you again for the help you offered in July. Maybe you'll see this as kind of proof that your investment of time and thought was justified. --Tenmei (talk) 00:27, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Embarassment? Request for Arbitration

Was I supposed to have been have been embarrassed, contrite, worried by anything you wrote? If so, I utterly missed that point? I thought "thank you" was the appropriate response; but now I find your words are presented as the penultimate proof that anything I say should be disregarded. In asking for the Arbitration Committee's attention, my first paragraph reveals my view:

This forum has not been previously challenged to contrive a "win-win" resolution, but this instance requires just that -- nothing less. In all other fora except WP:AN/I, my voice was unheard, lost, drowned out; and what I seek here is something like the successful intervention I encountered there.

Will you took at Nick Dowling has posted at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration#Current Requests#Tenmei and Nick Dowling? Obviously, I missed the point. I thought our goal at WP:AN/I was to understand at least my part in what happened. NO -- that wasn't the point at all. No, the point was to create a record which could then be used to devalue anything else I might say in future. If this is the way the system works, you failed to let me in on the dirty little secret. Or was this another of those things I was just supposed to know? Which is it? It now appears that the correct response to WP:AN/I should have been to focus on discrediting Nick Dowling, and I spent no time on that activity. I only tried to understand what was a sham a priori.

Now the tale becomes worse .... Does this really have to be another lesson learned the hard way? What do I have to do to clear my good "username" -- open a new WP:AN/I complaint? That would never have occurred to me before today. --Tenmei (talk) 18:13, 7 August 2008 (UTC) -- see [2]

EyeSerene -- The following calls for no comment or response from you, nor perhaps from me. Initially, I saw nothing in the above which suggests a leap towards a plausible reason to spin my words as a THREAT; but now I just don't know. I didn't intend to give Nick Dowling the impression that I would be so obscure. Maybe not. Some things are best ignored; and that may be an excellent course in this case.

Additional comment I note that User:Tenmei is now threatening to report me at WP:ANI: [3]. Nick Dowling (talk) 11:03, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
I see no need to address this urgently, if at all -- but it probably does make sense to record a relevant link and its context. --Tenmei (talk) 17:52, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

You can quote me

In an attempt to identify something I think was said by a famous Brit, let me ask you if "Here I stand, here I shall remain" sounds at all familiar. Winston comes to mind. No? A yes here would be appreciated; I will take no answer as a no, or "I've no clue". TREKphiler hit me ♠ 13:43, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Martin Luther is credited with having said, "Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me. Amen." (Hier stehe ich. Ich kann nicht anders. Gott helfe mir. Amen.). --Tenmei (talk) 14:47, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about that, Chief. (But not very. =]) TREKphiler hit me ♠ 09:26, 27 July 2008 (UTC) (P.S. I've gotten 2 votes for Luther. I had no idea Lex was so popular. ;D)

FA-Team Mission 5: Solar solicitude/solidarity

Hi EyeSerene,

As an FA-Team member, I'm soliciting your assistance with FA-Team Mission 5 on Scattered disc and Solar energy (and possibly others). Your expertise on copyediting, images, assessement etc. would be much appreciated. Please sign up on the mission page and watchlist the mission page and articles if you are interested in helping out. Another question

An easier one, this time. ;) For when you get a chance (it's not a burning issue). I've tagged pages for WPs, & I've always wondered where that shows up. I imagine there's something like a "master page" for each. True? TREKphiler hit me ♠ 13:13, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Someone to Watch Over Me (again)

Would you mind moving the suite of pages back to where they're supposed to be, since Xnux moved them again to small "o", against consensus? I'm moved the diasambiguation page via cut-and-paste, but don't want to do the others that way and screw up their histories. All of these refer back to the Gershwin song, which clearly has the cap "O" over.

Thanks in advance. Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 20:55, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Or, if if something a non-admin can do, tell me how to make the moves myself, if you'd prefer to step away. Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 22:40, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Many thanks for looking into this for me -- someone moved them since the last time I checked. Welcome back. Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 16:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Going for FA

ES, would you say the article is about ready for the big run, or does it need more copyediting, you think? I think you did a fantastic job so far, so I thought I'd ask you whether or not you thought we were done yet—I can't see much that would be a problem at this point. Thanks, —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 21:49, 27 July 2008 (UTC).

Tory Island

Very fine article, but can it be included in Category:Naval battles involving Ireland, or does such a category exist? Fergananim (talk) 01:15, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Peer Review Request

Hey EyeSerene, I currently have the article The Great American Bash (2005) up for Peer review, here. I come to you in hopes of you reviewing the article, as I'm aiming to get this article prepared for Featured Article status. I would really appreciate if you would take some time and review this article to the best of your abilities. Cheers, -- iMatthew T.C. 13:28, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, the peer review is still open if you would like to review it. Cheers, -- iMatthew T.C. 16:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Any chance you could help with Niedermayer-Hentig Expedition?

Hello EyeSerene, I was wondering if you might be able to help with Niedermayer-Hentig Expedition which is to do with German espionage in World War I. I wanted to see if there was any help especially with prose and c/e, but would also appreciate any other comments, since I wanted to put it up for FAC once PR is done. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 14:15, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Request

Hi EyeSerene, I have been working on another article and was wondering if you wouldn't mind having a quick look at it and see if it is good enough to have me to nominate it for GA? If you are too busy, or don't want to I completely understand, but the article is Ernest Albert Corey if you do feel like humouring me. Thanks mate, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 11:22, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

I hope you had a good break! Thanks for having a look at the article; I appriciate it. So, do you think that if I nominated it for GA it would pass? Thanks, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 07:53, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much, EyeSerene! You are a great credit to Wikipedia. Abraham, B.S. (talk) 08:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

GA reform

Back from my wikibreak, I dropped in at WT:GAN to see how discussions were going regarding the new proposal. I see it's been archived after little discussion. Is there any mileage to be had in reopening the discussion, or do we just write it off as yet another proposal that's never going to happen? I've no wish to flog a dead horse... Gwinva (talk) 02:35, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Summer breaks???? Where I am, it's easy to forget anyone has summer. But yes, it makes sense to wait until the majority of people are back, and hit the ground running. Advertising it a little more widely is sensible too. Gwinva (talk) 23:23, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Torrential rain, wind, and the odd glimpse of a something shining behind the cloud cover?? Sounds like the weather here... Gwinva (talk) 07:19, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Community ban and log

Hi there. Would you have time to look at this? I've given an example there of a community ban that I think wasn't logged at Wikipedia:List of banned users. Possibly I'm misunderstanding what happened here. Was it an indefinite block, or was it a ban? Either way, a link to the discussions you mention in the block log would be good. Do you have a link like that? Carcharoth (talk) 04:15, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

I found it. Was that a community ban or not? Do you think it needs to be logged somewhere where a link can be recorded (given that there isn't one in the block log)? Carcharoth (talk) 04:29, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
