Curriculum[edit]

Accredited by the New Brunswick Department of Education in Canada, the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen offers to its students internationally recognized Canadian curriculum.

The New Brunswick (Canada) curriculum is recognized universally for its quality, breadth and depth. It is an outcomes-based system that ensures all students attains the required knowledge, skills and attitudes before graduation. In the early years, this program provides an emphasis on basic skills, knowledge and attitudes that students will need for later success. As the program moves into Middle School, the subject areas broaden to provide students with experiences in more curriculum areas and to introduce new interests. In High School, the program begins to narrow once again as we prepare students to enter post secondary studies.

All teachers at ISNS are well qualified to teach at their respective levels, meeting Canadian certification standards or the equivalent. The majority of the staff is recruited from Canada. The teachers at ISNS maintain the same standards that would be expected by the Ministry of Education in Canada. The educational programs and teaching methodologies are supported and reviewed by officials from Canada. Students also write Provincial assessments (Province of New Brunswick, Canada) to ensure the consistency of curriculum delivery.

The International School of Nanshan Shenzhen offers classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12, with Elementary, Middle School and High School sections. The school also offers Advanced Placement (AP), a program that allows high school students to earn a university credit or advanced standing at most universities and colleges during their Grade 12 year. All universities in North America recognize the Advanced Placement program. Outside of North America, universities in more than 40 countries recognize AP in the admissions process. Students are also prepared to take the Standardized Admissions Test (SAT).

English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) classes are offered to non-English speaking students based on a student assessment upon admissions.

ISNS also offers extracurricular activities to all students, ranging from language development, arts and crafts, music, performances, games, information technology, the school yearbook and newspaper, athletics, etc.

As well as being affiliated with the Canadian Province of New Brunswick's Department of Education, ISNS is also affiliated with UNESCO, ACAMIS (Association of China and Mongolia International Schools). ISNS is also an examination site for SAT, PSAT/NMSQT and AP Exams.
