[edit]The club has a great junior setup, an under 18 side, and an under 14 team. U/18 A team of fantastic valiant young players formed together by coach "Dima" to uphold the youth of Essendon United. Players such as "Anf", Richy "The Bong" Di Mauro, Sammy "Godzilla" Tzaferis, Theo "The Slav" Dounias, Former Essendon Royals Captain and striker Adrian "Torres" Sciulli, Yianni "Chicken Legs" Koulouris, Robbie "Pele" Pele, and other marvelous talent.
Game of the Season 09: Essendon Utd 4 - 2 Cairnlea F.C.
Former Super-League side Cairnlea walked into this game with nothing but confidence and a guarenteed 3 points, but Essendon Utd was not so keen on letting them take those 3 points easily. Both teams colours being red caused problems. Cairnlea only had 8 tops to play with, therefore only playing with 8 men for the first half. Cairnlea took an early lead by lobbing the rarely surpassed "Anf". United struck back almost instantly with Yianni "The Wall" Koulouris headering in Robbie Pele's cross superbly. Pele proved his worth hitting the crossbar twice in quick succession from 40 yards out. Disaster struck again when "Anf" was lobbed once more, and it seemed it wasnt to be United's game. Another superb cross from Pele went straight to "The Slav's" head and he magnificently headered the ball over the defence to Adrian Sciulli's sublime finishing. The score was locked at 2-2 at half time.
Cairnlea now started with 11 players and Essendon's hopes of first win looked dismal. All players were playing fantastically and Cairnlea was against the ropes. A Gobsmacking run from Richy "The Bong" Di Mauro down the wing shocked the Cairnlea defence and Adrian Sciulli was left exposed and unmarked once the ball was squared to him, he slotted the ball into the empty net with ease. The fairytale was alive and Essendon's hopes were re-ignited. A change was made. Yianni "Chicken Legs" Koulouris seemed to be suffering from a groin injury. Sammy Tzaferis was subbed on and was soon to make an impact. Marvelous tackles from Sammy Tzaferis let nothing through the defencive wall. A great backheel flick by "The Slav" released Pele with to go one-on-one with the keeper, he slotted home the winner with ease. Essendon were rampant. Tears of joy poured the players eyes as they sang the victory song in the change rooms for the first time this season. Now, the league was next...
