Bio
[edit]I am Enrique MartinezCarballo, was born in El Paso, Texas (1992-Present), but grew up in Ciudad Juarez, Chi, Mexico. I have moved around my whole life from place to place. When I was 12 I moved to a small town called Farmersville, CA, in which I lived until I graduated High School and enlisted in the United States Navy as a Gas turbine Systems technician (Mechanic). I have served onboard 3 ships: USS Monterey, USS Oscar Austin, and the USS Stockdale. I am currently a student at Olympic College, with interests in mechanical engineering/ aeronautical engineering/ physics. In my free time I enjoy working on my car making minor tweaks for improvement in performance, but I also like to ride on my BMX bike when time allows.
My activeness with Wikipedia is still in the developing stage. Wikipedia has copious amounts of written articles, but my vested interest are towards the previously stated ships I served on. They sharpened me to become a better individual, therefore I would like to give back indirectly to them by altering and revising their Wikipedia pages as time proceeds, whether it's from personal experience while serving or having to do research within the topic.
Article Critique
[edit]Often times we find ourselves googling random topics or questions in hopes for a quick answer, or an easy source to read. In todays day and age, with the increasing rise of smartphones, it has become even easier to google whatever you want, whenever you want. Wikipedia tends to be one of the first websites to pop up when searching basically any topic. I've recently visited the USS Stockdale Wikipedia page, and found three aspects of it worth commentating on: support/citations, age, and completeness.
Citations
[edit]When searching wikipedia pages, it is actually important to look at the citations of the information given, to ensure credibility of the information. The USS Stockdale was initially commissioned in April 2009, but since then there has been a lot of information missing, not cited, or just completely wrong in Wikipedia. For instance, the last deployment stated was dated on returning to San Diego in 29 August, 2016, but the ship had returned on the 11th of August, 2016. [1] There was no citation even listed on the wikipedia page about the return of the USS Stockdale, anyone that was on that ship could have just went in and edited the dates without any actual sources. These types of "facts" are all over the page for the USS Stockdale, with no citations included. If someone doesn't look up the information in any other source, they are being filled with incorrect information about the USS Stockdale.
Age
[edit]This article has been recently edited, mainly with spam or grammar corrections. Any actual information was lasted dated to be added in 2012, making a five year gap of missing information, missions, port-calls, or event of the ship not being accounted for. For example, the Multilateral Naval Exercises Komodo,[2] off the coast of Indonesia, is one of the most recent events of the USS Stockdale was not stated at all in the Wikipedia page. It took me little to no time to find this information about the ships recent events, so it is not due to lack of accessibility for this five year gap of information.
Completeness
[edit]It may seem as if age and completeness may be the same pertaining to this article due to its 5 year gap where there is nothing recorded about the article on its page. With a simple google search of USS Stockdale, you will find an abundant articles featuring USS Stockdale. It is due to the age of this article that it lacks completeness. There is so much that has happened to the USS Stockdale that is yet to be recorded factually on Wikipedia at all. Five years is a long time to lack any information on a topic that is still pertinent . It is not as if nothing happened in the past five years, just last year (2016) the USS Stockdale became the one of the first fleets to switch over to a new energy conversion when departing from deployment.[3] Yet this, or any other event was yet to be mentioned at all in the article. Which causes a large deficit in recent information available to readers. How it stands now, this article on the USS Stockdale is not complete.
Summary
[edit]The USS Stockdale page on Wikipedia is undoubtedly not the best go-to page to find any recent or reliable information from. The article is outdated with copious amounts of information not recorded. Although, it may appear the posted information on the page may be coming from personal experience or events pertaining to the topic, instead of following Wikipedia's policy on basing their articles on reliability with accurate information posted. [4] This page is lacking many of the attributes a featured article contains, from simply being well-written, to well-researched.
