Barcelona

After deciding to remain with Barcelona, Messi split his time between its youth, C, and B team. He made his first-team debut against FC Porto in November 2003 and became a starting player for the first team in 2005.

After contract negotiations with Barcelona fell through, Messi announced his departure in July 2021. He had spent 17 years with the team.

Paris Saint-Germain

Messi joined Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in August 2021. Despite winning a seventh Ballon d'Or that year, his first season with the team saw a decline in his output as he struggled to adjust to the new environment. He failed to score double-digit league goals for the first time since 2005.

Messi departed PSG in June 2023, despite the return to form. After his departure, he was rumoured to be returning to Barcelona or signing with Saudi Professional League club Al-Hilal, but joined neither.

Inter Miami

In July 2023, Major League Soccer club Inter Miami officially announced that they had signed Messi. Inter Miami had been hinting at the signing since June, and it was the subject of massive media hype, with the move expected to bring greater attention to the league and American soccer in general.

International

Messi has represented Argentina in various capacities since 2004.

Messi became the third player in history to record 100 international goals, after a friendly against Curaçao in March 2023.
