Overview[edit]

Most people believe in a reality that does not directly depend upon their own perceptions, presence, desires, or biases. This near universal belief in objective reality is the primal foundation for distinguishing that which is purely internal to the mind, and therefore subjective, from that which can be directly perceived by all and so can form a shared frame of reference for communication. There are diverse ways of talking about objectivity. As examples, the terms material, truth, fact, and worldly often refer to aspects of objectivity. Science could be described as a practical approach to exploring and documenting objective reality.
