HOLY WEEK AND EASTER PROCESSIONS IN THE OUR LADY OF LIGHT PARISH (CAINTA, RIZAL)[edit]

The tradition of Holy Week processions in the Parish of Our Lady of Light in Cainta is already 217 years old or even more. The Santa Visita de Cainta (pastoral visit of the diocesan bishop) of 1790 mentioned that there is already the practice of Holy Week processions in the parish during that time. The inventory of the church included also the images of the Nazareno, Dolorosa and Resurrecion. Meanwhile, the Santa Visita de Cainta of 1853 recorded in the inventory quince imagenes para la Semana Santa (15 images for Holy Week). The images, however, were not identified. Finally, the Inventario de los bienes de la Yglesia de Cainta of 15 December 1924 listed the following images: Resurrecion, Dolorosa, Santo Entierro, and Jesus Nazareno.

Among the present processional images used, the following are antique: Pananalangin sa Halamanan (Agony in the Garden), San Pedro (St. Peter), Pagpuputong ng Koronang Tinik (Crowning with Thorns), Nazareno (Carrying of the Cross), Santa Veronica (St. Veronica), Santo Entierro (Dead Christ), Santa Salome (St. Salome), Santa Maria Magdalena (St. Mary Magdalene), San Juan Ebanghelista (St. John the Evangelist), Dolorosa (Our Lady of Sorrow - 2 images), Resurrecion (Risen Christ) and Birheng Nagagalak (Joyful Mother).
