History: Est. June 23, 1948, as the South Louisiana Trade School, to provide "vocational training for the populace of an area comprised of the following five parishes: Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption, St. James, and St. Charles." At the time, such trade schools were "for whites only" - the enabling legislation reads

The campus was completed in June, 1951 at a cost of $418,216.[2]

1948 - South Louisiana Trade School created, opened 1951[3] 1977 - renamed South Louisiana Vocationa-Technical School 1990 - renamed to South Louisiana Regional Technical Institute 1995 - renamed to Louisiana Technical College - South Louisiana Campus 1999 - Louisiana Technical College - L. E. Fletcher Campus 2003 - spun off from Louisiana Technical College and renamed L. E. Fletcher Technical Community College.

Current name honors a former director of the college.

Reclassified as a "Technical Community College" within the Louisiana Community and Technical College System 6/1/03. Prior to 6/1/03 it was a campus of the Luisiana Techncial College.

2009 enrollment: 1823, 1427.5 full-time equivalent, 52.1% full time, 40 full-time faculty, 20 part-time faculty, 9 associate degree programs, 9 diploma programs, 43 certificate programs. About 84% of enrollment is from two parishes - Terrebonne and Lafourche.

Major areas of study, in addition to general education courses: Business, Marine and Petroleum, Nursing and Allied Health, Manufacturing and Service Technologies. In the fall of 2009, Nursing was the largest single specialized program, with 26% of students enrolled.

In 2009, 63% of students had at least one parent who had never attended college.

Original location:

"South Louisiana Trade School opened on July, 1951 at 310 St. Charles Street in Houma, Louisiana. The facility was built on a seven-acre site owned by the Terrebonne Parish School Board. Harrell P. Willis was the first director of the school and served until 1968. Full-time day preparatory classes were offered in Office Occupations, Drafting, Auto Mechanics, Industrial Engines Mechanics, and Carpentry."
