For the Learning of Mathematics is a peer-reviewed scientific journal within the field of mathematics education.
The official description of the journal can be found on its website and also on the inside cover of any issue. It reads: "The journal aims to stimulate reflection on mathematics education at all levels, and promote study of its practices and its theories: to generate productive discussion; to encourage enquiry and research; to promote criticism and evaluation of ideas and procedures current in the field. It is intended for the mathematics educator who is aware that the learning and teaching of mathematics are complex enterprises about which much remains to be revealed and understood." [1]
The journal includes articles in English and in French. It is published three times a year, in March, July and November. Subscribers receive print copies of the issues and starting in 2015 will be able to access the journal online. David Wheeler founded the journal in 1980 and served as editor until ****. The succession of editors has been as follows: David Wheeler, David Pimm, Laurinda Brown, Brent Davis, Richard Barwell. The current editorial team includes editor Richard Barwell (Canada), and associate editors Nathalie Sinclair (Canada) and David Reid (Germany). The journal is published by the FLM Publishing Association under the auspices of the Canadian Mathematics Education Study Group/Groupe Canadien d'étude en didactique des mathématiques (CMESG/GCEDM).
