Northwestern University Dance Marathon, commonly referred to as NUDM, is a 30-hour dance marathon that takes place every March at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois to raise money for a rotating nonprofit organization and the Evanston Community Foundation. It was started in 1975 by the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the school’s Associated Student Government. Today, it is one of the largest entirely student-run philanthropies in the world raising $1,201,216 in the 2016 event featuring Blessings in a Backpack as it’s rotating beneficiary. Cumulatively, Northwestern University Dance Marathon has raised over $17 million for its various beneficiaries.
