Darren Charlton (born May 27 1973) is a British novelist. His debut novel, 'Wranglestone' was shortlisted for the Costa Book Awards in 2020 and won the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize for Older Readers in 2021. It was also named one of The Times Best Books of the Year 2020.


Early Life and Education
Darren was born and grew up in Hastings on the south coast of England. He studied B.A(hons) English Literature and Film Studies at De Montford University Bedford. He currently lives back in his hometown.


Career
Darren Charlton's debut novel, Wranglestone is 'part zombie epic, part gay love story and part political allegory. A sophisticated new voice." (The Times) In 2018, Charlton secured a two-book deal with imprint Little Tiger Press for Wranglstone. Wranglestone went on to be shortlisted for the Costa Book Awards, Branford Boase Award, YA Book Prize and in 2021, won the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize For Older Readers. A direct sequel, Timberdark, published in 2023.
