Lake of the Woods Speedway is a 3/8, low banked, dirt oval racetrack located in Kenora, Ontario in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is located approximately ten kilometers east of downtown Kenora on the Jones Road between the Kenora Bypass and the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Construction began in Spring 2016 ^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4] and continued until October 2017 when an open practice was hosted for the first time.^[5]

Lake of the Woods Speedway currently runs three weekly classes, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Regional Pure Stocks and 4-Cylinders. Special Invitations include WISSOTA Modifieds and Winnipeg Super Trucks. The Racing season runs from early June until early September with winter events taking place in February.

Origins of Lake of the Woods Speedway

In October 2014, the search for a piece of property that was flat enough to be able to host such a facility began. After scouting out several different locations, the property at 556 Jones Road with Heavy Industrial Zoning became the determined location for the new speedway. In January 2016, an agreement was signed with ownership of the property.

First Races

The very first Racing Event to take place at Lake of the Woods Speedway was a Snowmachine Enduro on Sunday, February 18, 2018. The winner was #17 Christopher Leek from Ste. Anne, Manitoba. After several practice events in the Spring of 2018, the speedway hosted its first stock car races on Sunday, August 5, 2018. ^[6]

Funding Support

On August 4, 2019, the Provincial Government through NOHFC (Northern Ontario Heritage Fund) announced an up to $200,000 grant to help with completing construction of the facility.^[7]
