Theological Controversies

Some theologians oppose YWAM doctrine, practice, and associations with regards to:

• justification, most notably the lack of Sola Fide doctrine.
• an ethical stance of consequentialism (the ends justify the means).
• ecumenism with Catholicism and the Charismatic Movement.
• syncretism including the use of names of non-Christian deities and scriptures.
• publishing and endorsing New Apostolic Reformation and Third Wave teachings.
• association with and endorsement of Benny Hinn, C. Peter Wagner, et. al. as "false prophets"
• belief in territorial spirits
• a perceived alignment with dominionism and Latter Rain theology and eschatology.

David Clark, director of YWAM Minneapolis has rebutted that "Many of the doctrinal criticisms of YWAM come from radical individuals who do not appreciate theological diversity" identifying them as "hard-core Calvinists" while celebrating the movement's diversity which he claimed also includes Calvinists. Excommunicated Members

Notable people excommunicated from YWAM include Dave Andrews, Greg Robertson who later became a college and seminary educated conservative Lutheran Pastor and missionary to Indonesia and who now owns and operates a home for the elderly, and Matthew Murray.
