Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is a 237-bed community hospital located in the Hybla Valley area of Fairfax County.

History[edit]

$10 million of a $32.5 million bond issue approved by county voters in a November 1967 referendum was intended for construction of the hospital.[1]

Despite the recommendation of the Fairfax County Hospital and Health Center Commission to purchase a 68-acre site on Lockheed Boulevard, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors instead voted in 1969 to purchase a smaller 40-acre site to the east as a location for the proposed $14.4 million hospital.[2]

In March 1974, the Board of Supervisors voted to build the hospital.[3]

In 1983, the hospital opened a 16-bed comprehensive rehabilitation center, the first in the D.C. Metro area.[4] Ten years later, the Inova Center for Rehabilitation at Mount Vernon Hospital had expanded to 59 beds.[4]

Following extensive losses, Inova considered either closing or moving the hospital in 2003.[5]

In 2013, Barbara Doyle left her position as CEO to return to her home in Massachusetts.[6] Medical director Dr. Donald Brideau served as interim CEO until the appointment of Deborah Addo in 2014,[7]
