[1]Women and Christianity is topic not many people discuss. Obviously there are christian women all over the world, but the topic that surprises people when discussed is women and their role in christianity. In the Dissenting Voice: Shirley's Voice of Women in Christianity, shirley states that she views women as a sin, deceptive, and also dangerous. “Adam was not deceived, but the women, being deceived, so she will use deception, use a seductive appearance, to lure men into sin”, (Shirley 199).

A study by Leslie J. Francis states that women really hold more of a positive attitude toward christianity. She studies the table of how many women and men are in the world and she concludes that there are more women than men in this world. One of the reasons she does this study is because she believes that female are meant to be a more dominant species than men. She comes up with a chart she analyzed and created and she states “the ratio of women over is bigger than any can imagine”, (Francis 199).[2]

[3]In AD 494, in response to reports that women were serving at the altar in the south of Italy, Pope Gelasius I wrote a letter condemning female participation in the celebration of the Eucharist, a role he felt was reserved for men. As the years went by that belief started to change because God welcomes everyone in their religion and women are considered to be an importance to christianity because the female disciples of Jesus, and the women at the crucifixion who were the first witnesses to the Resurrection of Christ, as supporting evidence of the importance of women as leaders in the Early Church. Women can participate in the service as readers or servers, but they have a big role like being a priest because christianity states men are the superior.
