User:Buaidh/Proposed United States Mexico border

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The existing 1,954-mile (3,145 km) border between the United States of America and the United Mexican States has long been a source of frustration for both nations. One possible solution would reduce the total border distance to about 1,215 miles (1,955 km). The proposed border would begin at the mouth of the Sabine River () on the Gulf of Mexico (), thence up the Sabine to Latitude 30°12' North, thence west along said latitude to the Gulf of California (). This border simplification will require a bilateral treaty between the United States and Mexico and ratification by both nations.

While the United States would gain a greater extent of territory, Mexico would gain a greater population. The United States would gain all of Las Californias and Mexico would regain much of Coahuila y Tejas. The cities of Tijuana, Cuidad Juarez, Mexicali, Ensenada, La Paz, Nogales, San Luis Rio Colorado, Playas de Rosarito, San Quintin, Tecate, San Jose del Cabo, and Cabo San Lucas would become part of the United States while Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Brownsville, Pasadena, Pearland, McAllen,, League City, Beaumont, Sugar Land, and Edinburg would become part of Mexico.
