The 2020 Central Europe Cup is a Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket tournament scheduled to be held in the Czech Republic between 24 and 27 September 2020,[1][2][3] after originally being scheduled to take place in June. The Central European Cup is an annual event organized by the Czech Cricket Union, which began in 2014 as a 50-over tournament for invited national teams. The format was changed to Twenty20 in 2019,[2][4] and the current edition will be the first in which matches will have official T20I status since the ICC granted Twenty20 International (T20I) status to matches between all of its Members.[5] The hosts are the defending champions, having defeated Hungary by seven wickets in the 2019 final (the tournament also featured Switzerland and Latvia).[4][6][7]
The 2020 edition will feature national teams from Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Luxembourg, Malta, along with the hosts Czech Republic. Matches will be played at the Scott Page Field and the Banks Field, both at Vinoř Cricket Ground, Prague, and will be the first official T20I matches to be played in the Czech Republic.[2] The teams will be split into two groups of three, and the group stage will be followed by a series of playoff matches. Group A will contain Austria, Belgium and Hungary, while Group B will include Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Malta.[1] The tournament will provide much needed competitive matches for the six participating nations following the postponement of qualifying for what will now be the 2022 T20 World Cup.[1]
