XRP is a cryptocurrency created as a native cryptoasset on the distributed ledger technology XRP Ledger. XRP has been utilized[2] in RippleNet[3] (cross-border payment network), developed by Ripple Labs Inc. Their deep relationship lead users to commonly call XRP by the nickname "Ripple".
History of all XRP transactions is saved on the XRP Ledger and protected cryptographically. Data of XRP Ledger is distributed among network servers that are constructed by trusted users[4] (companies, academia, exchanges utilizing XRP), allowing XRP to achieve both rapid transaction and robustness[5], simultaneously. Based on XRP and XRP Ledger technology, Ripple Lab Inc and partners are dedicated to establishing a real-time gross settlement system, enabling exchange of all currency/asset pairs in cross-border remittance and international trade.
