Lechonk (グルトン, Guruton) is a Pokémon species that appears in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon media franchise. Since its introduction, they have since appeared in other media and titles related to the Pokémon franchise, such as the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

Classified as a Normal type, Lechonk resembles a short pig. It is known for its excellent sense of smell and its appetite for food. This Pokémon received positive reception from fans upon its announcement.[1]

Design and appearances

[edit]

Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo, the Pokémon series began in Japan in 1996 with the release of the Pokémon Red and Blue video games for the Game Boy. In these games, the player assumes the role of a Pokémon Trainer whose goal is to capture and train creatures called Pokémon. Players use the creatures' special abilities to combat other Pokémon,[2][3] and some can transform into stronger species, or evolve, once they gain enough experience.[4] The ultimate goal of the games is to complete the entries in the Pokémon index (Pokédex), a comprehensive Pokémon encyclopedia, by capturing, evolving, and trading to obtain creatures from all Pokémon species.[2]

Introduced in the 2022 video games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, this Pokémon resembles a pig and is named after Lechon, another name for suckling pig.[5] The Pokémon’s body consists of mainly muscle[6], because it spends most of its time walking around. It also has an excellent sense of smell, which it only uses for foraging for food, mainly wild grasses and berries.[7]

Critical Reception

[edit]

Upon its reveal on June 2022, the game received positive reception[1][6], also being compared to a pig from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The Pokémon also received praise from Among Us.[8]
