Adoption offer[edit]

Hi. I notice that you've requested adoption, and I'd like to offer to adopt you. I live in the eastern US, so my time zone is GMT-5. I'm available most evenings.

I'm interested in a variety of topics, including mathematics, anime and manga, and video games (a typical geek, I am), and I have a good knowledge of wikipedia process and policy, so I should be able to help you with any questions or difficulties you may have. Anything I don't know, I'm sure I can discover.

If you'd like to accept my offer, just leave a note on my talk page. I look forward to hearing from you. --Sopoforic 21:00, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Great! I've changed the templates to reflect that you've accepted. I hope we'll enjoy working together.
I'll look over your contributions in a bit more detail (I've only glanced through them, so far) and see if there's anything I'd like to comment on. In the interim, if you'd like to let me know what kind of things you'd like for me to help you with, that'd be great. You're always free to ask me questions, of course, but if you'd like for me to look at anything in particular to give you suggestions, just let me know and I'll be happy to help. --Sopoforic 17:05, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Collaborating on an article[edit]

Collaborating on an article might be fun. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the English Wikipedia, so I'll list a few things you might find helpful to know about regarding new articles:

  • New articles containing interesting or unusual facts from newly-created articles can be listed on the Did You Know box on the front page, which is intended to attract other users to the article, where they might choose to help out.
  • You can probably find interested people at Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games if you'd like to find some people to collaborate on an article about video games, or if you need some help with an issue particular to video games, such as their templates or style guidelines (you can, of course, ask me as well).
  • Adding sources to new articles is important. I've just looked at the articles for a few older games (Alley Cat, Doom, and Castle of the Winds) and they seem to be referencing pretty much any sources that are available, like Home of the Underdogs or various other abandonware sites, as well as official homepages for the game or the game's creator. So, those will be things to look for when trying to find sources.

If you've got a particular article in mind that you'd like to start or improve, let me know, and I'll see about collecting some sources and we can begin working on it whenever you're ready. Happy editing! --Sopoforic 23:12, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Regarding The Glob[edit]

I've been reviewing your contribs, and it looks like you've just copied The Glob from one of the arcade game information sites. You can't do that. You'll need to rewrite the text so that it isn't a copy of what's on these other websites. I've not yet checked the other articles you've created, but if you copied the text for those, you'll need to fix them, too.

Additionally, you need to add references to the articles you create. There are numerous sites that provide information about old video games (see here for example) which would be good to use as references.

Let me know if you need any help finding references, or if you want my opinion on something. --Sopoforic 00:19, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Edit summaries[edit]

Hi! I was taking a look at your recent contributions, and I notice that you aren't using any edit summaries. While it's not really a big deal for small changes, you'll want to leave an edit summary for the larger ones (like this one) so that others can tell what you did and why you did it. Looking at the example I listed, I guess that you've corrected the list to match what the Game Stick says, ordered it, and made it complete. It's reasonably clear, but an edit summary provided as a courtesy to other editors is always appreciated.

Also, I just wanted to remind you that I'm here if you need anything, and am happy to answer any questions you may have, or help you out. I've been a little busy in real life, so I haven't checked on you as much as I'd like, but I didn't want you to think that I'd forgotten about you. If there's anything I can do for you, just leave me a note. Happy editing. --Sopoforic 02:22, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:City0004.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:City0004.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed orphanbot leaving this message on your talk page, so I added the appropriate tag and rationale to the image page, as well as the note to the article page. Look at both to see what I did. In addition to the two links that orphanbot gave above, have a look at Wikipedia:Image_description_page#Fair_use_rationale which describes exactly what you need to do when uploading a fair use image. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. --Sopoforic 22:33, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Changing username[edit]

It surely is possible: see Wikipedia:Changing username for details and instructions. I think that the instructions are pretty clear, but if you need help with this (or, of course, with any other issue), please feel free to leave me a message. --Sopoforic 05:01, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations on the new name. May it serve you well. --Sopoforic 15:09, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Xracing.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Xracing.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 00:07, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Puzz0000.png[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Puzz0000.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:59, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Video Gems[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Video Gems, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. B. Wolterding 19:04, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Eggomania.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Eggomania.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
