Annie Korzen is an American actress, comedian and writer. She is married to Danish film producer Benni Korzen (Babette’s Feast, Forever Plaid). Korzen is a graduate of Bard College in New York as is her son, Jonathan, who works in public relations.
Korzen is particularly well known from the hit television show Seinfeld, appearing in the recurring role of Doris Klompus, an obnoxious neighbor living in Jerry’s parents’ Florida condo complex. She was also seen on the show’s season 4 episode, "The Airport", as an annoying airline passenger bothering Elaine Benes in economy class. Her dual roles make her the only actor to appear as two different characters in the show’s entire nine year run.[1]
Acting Career[edit]
Korzen began her career as an actress-writer in New York Off-Broadway theater. She has appeared in numerous television shows including E.R., Judging Amy, and Hannah Montana as well as in the motion pictures Tootsie, Stardust Memories, and Nobody’s Perfect, which she co-wrote. Most recently, she appeared as John Turturro’s mother in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.[2]
Korzen has written, composed, and performed two solo shows. "YENTA UNPLUGGED Excuse Me, I’m Talking!" celebrates Jewish women through comedy and music. It has been produced on three continents: from New York to Sydney to Copenhagen and many points in between. The second show, "KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT and Other Things I Can’t Do" is about the price one pays for speaking out.[3]
She is also on the lecture circuit with her talk, “The Good Yenta: A Humorous Celebration of Jewish Women”.[4] [5]
In 1993, Korzen was a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, in an episode entitled “Ethnic Men Who Reject Their Own Women”, a topic Korzen had suggested to the show’s producers.[6]
Writing Career[edit]
Korzen’s droll commentaries have been heard on NPR's Morning Edition,[7] and her essays have been printed in the New York Times[8], Los Angeles Times[9], San Francisco Chronicle[10], Jewish Journal of Los Angeles[11], and numerous other publications. She has also done many spoken-word performances at Los Angeles literary salons such as Comedy Central’s Sit ‘n Spin, Tasty Words, and Sparks.
Her most recent writing endeavor is BARGAIN JUNKIE: Living the Good Life on the Cheap, a humorous-how/to book about enjoying an upscale lifestyle on a thriftaholic budget. The book will published by Andrews McMeel Universal and available in stores in October, 2009.[12] [13]
