Dr. Samieh (Sam) Rizk, MD is an American plastic surgeon,[1] best known for his pioneering techniques in a variety of cosmetic surgery procedures, including rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, facelift, and revision facelift surgery, performing about 600 rhinoplasties per year.[2] He is the Director and Founder of Manhattan Facial Plastic Surgery and the Director of Park Avenue Facial Surgery, PLLC. Dr. Rizk has dual board certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He is known for his customized surgical procedures for each individual patient. He has published several articles describing how his techniques can be applied for both younger and older patients.

Career[edit]

As a high school student, Dr. Rizk was accepted into an accelerated medical school program at the University of Michigan’s Medical School. Upon graduating, he returned to his native state of New York to complete an internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, followed by his residency in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery/facial plastic surgery at New York Hospital and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. Dr. Rizk also completed a Fellowship program of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in California.

Shortly thereafter, Dr. Rizk founded his own cosmetic surgery practice in New York and has been practicing ever since.

Pioneering[edit]

Dr. Rizk's methods have transformed the field of cosmetic surgery and made him one of the leading experts in the filed. He was among the first to successfully perform the combined endonasal rhinoplasty and sinus/septal surgery. He also pioneered the 3-dimensional virtual rhinoplasty technique.

Additionally, Dr. Rizk introduced the use of high-definition telescopes in necklift surgery and was one of the first to use tissue glues in facelift surgery. This technique was elaborated in his book, Tissue Glues in Cosmetic Surgery, as well as in an article published by Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery. This article was the very first to address the method involving analyzing hematoma rates in deep plane facelift surgery with drainless approach with tissue glue.

Dr. Rizk is also a leader among New York City surgeons in applying stem cell fat transfers, using the PureGraft system, produced by Cytori Therapeutics, for facial rejuvenation and volume replenishment.

Awards and recognition[edit]

Rizk's rhinoplasty and facelift techniques and innovations have been featured on numerous television programs in the United States, including Nightline (ABC), The Today Show (NBC), The Doctors Show (CBS), The Dr. Oz Show, and other major news network programs. They have also been showcased on international programs, such as Telemundo and the Egyptian TV program, Egypt Today.

Dr. Rizk has written several books on his methods and has been widely published in a range of prestigious peer-review journals, including a landmark article in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, in which he introduces an algorithm he developed for evaluating lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Other journals that have published his work are Plastic Surgery Practice Journal, Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, ENT Journal, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Rizk was selected for Castle Connelly Best Doctors and New York Magazine's Best Doctors in facial plastic surgery.

Dr. Rizk is regular presenter of his techniques at facial plastic surgery conferences around the world, including in London, Italy, Brazil, the Middle East and the United States. Some past conferences and institutions where he has guest lectured are the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgeons Conference, Rhinoplasty Society Meeting,[3] the 14th Annual Mount Sinai Symposium, American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, International Facial Plastic Surgery Conference, Royal College of Physicians, the Northeast Society of Plastic Surgeons Conference, and many others. He also leads training programs in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and head and neck surgery at hospitals such as New York Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, and Lenox Hill Hospital. He also teaches at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital.

Philanthropy[edit]

Dr. Rizk is involved in a number of philanthropic organizations, including Baby Face, where he has performed free plastic surgery on deformed children. He also participates in the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s FACE-TO-FACE program,[4] performing free reconstructive surgery to victims of domestic violence and bullying.[2]
