Personal life[edit]

Taher graduated from Kuwait University in which he earned both his BA and MA in Philosophy[2].

Career[edit]

Taher worked as a philosophy teacher for several years[3]. He is currently serving on the Pacific Green Party state coordinating committee and a member in the Lane County chapter[4].

Political campaigns[edit]

Taher have not run for any public office previously. In an interview on KBTV he explained that a lot has changed since 2017 which apparently motivated him to get involved in politics[5].

2020 US Senate election[edit]

Taher filed the statement of candidacy with Federal Election Commission on Sep 30th 2019[6]. Between the time he entered the race and winning the pacific green party nomination on June 6th 2020 taher, have not reported any funds raised for his campaign, which is most likely a sign of not meeting the FEC threshold that requires the candidates to report[7]. It is worth to mention that Taher refuses to take contributions from PACs and views them as undemocratic[8].

Taher won the nomination of his party to face Jo Perkins and the incumbent Jeff Merkley in the general election on Nov 3rd, 2020[9].

On his website, Taher stated that he is specifically running for this seat because “Merkley is a partisan guy who perfectly and successfully hid from us and appeared as a progressive person while helping the status quo maintain their corruption.”[10] And in an interview with Dennis Crawford he described Merkley as “a standard democrats[11].

Taher was not supportive of the terms of the impeachment for its exclusion of real impeachable violations and called it a “reality show[12] .

Political Positions[edit]

Taher is very critical of the Republicans and the Democrats. In his comments on the recent protests he explicitly accused the politicians of both parties of prioritizing their own interests over the country's interest. He stated : “We are reaching an alarming level of divisiveness. Our politicians instead of promoting unity and solidarity, they shamelessly prey on our disunity and division; to emotionally fuel their bases and score more points in their political games.”[13]

Taher describes himself as anti-imperialism, he has made wars and foreign policy the first issue on his platform[14]. He also, calls for ending all of the current US wars and to abide by International Law[15][16]. He emphasizes that “Protecting other nations from oppression must go through its international proper channels according to the UN Charter” and demanded that the US foreign policies have to abide “by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.[17] Taher is very critical of the military drones program.[18]

Taher advocates for localizing businesses and opposes the USMCA[19]. He has signed many pledges since the beginning of his campaign including pledges from: Move to Amend, No Fossil fuel, Code Pink and The Black Alliance for Peace.[20][21][22][23]
