Song

Sweet Cherry Wine is a song by Tommy James and the Shondells from their 1969 album Cellophane Symphony. The song hit number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit number six on the Canadian charts. This "trippy" song was released at the height of psychadelia and right after two previous trippy songs by Tommy James and the Shondells, Crimson and Clover and Crystal Blue Persuasion. It actually expresses Tommy James' Christian beliefs, particularly that "sweet cherry wine" is indeed the Blood of Christ. Adding to the psychadelia of this and other songs on the album was the then-new Moog synthesizer.
