NSS Hindu College, Changanacherry, one of the most prestigious institutions of the Nair Service Society was founded in 1947, a significant year in the history of the nation. Amid hundreds of centres of higher education that sprang up in the Post Independence days across the state, the Hindu College remains unique as it has contributed substantially towards the moulding of the minds of generations thereby accelerating and stabilising the process of the cultural, educational and economic transformation of the society.The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Re-accredited the Institution at B++ level in 2006.

N. S. S. Hindu College, Changanacherry, one of the prestigious institutions of the N.S.S.Management came into being in 1947. As a pioneer institution of Higher Education, the college epitomises the exalted vision and objectives of Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan,the great Founder of The Nair Service Society which has been an eminent presence in the socio-cultural scenario of Kerala for the last several decades. The N. S. S. has always aspired to give shape to the vision and farsightedness of the immortal Founder and has played a pivotal role in uplifting the Nair community and in extending its unalloyed service to all sections of society without any discrimination. Over the years it has evolved as one of the biggest corporate educational establishments in the country running 25 colleges under various Universities in the state and over 150 schools spread across the state. What sustains the enthusiasm and social commitment of the Founder Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan,is the concerted efforts undertaken by the present leadership under the guidance of Hon'ble President Sri. P.N. Narendranathan Nair, Hon'ble General Secretary Sri. G. Sukumaran Nair, Hon'ble Treasurer Sri. Dr.M.Sasikumar.

Prof. R. Prasannakumar in his capacity as the Secretary of N.S.S. Colleges' Central Committee has performed meticulously in creating the right ambience and in promoting a congenial academic culture in all the institutions of higher education under the N.S.S. Management.

The college was formally inaugurated in 1956 by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan,the Hon'ble Vice-President of India, which was accompanied by a series of academic and cultural activities. On the auspicious occasion the N.S.S. flag was ceremonially hoisted by His Highness The Maharaja of Travancore Sri. Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma.The college building was formally opened by Sri. K.M. Munshi,the Hon'ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh who also presided over various conferences in association with the inaugural celebrations. The college has been growing steadily catering to the cultural and educational needs of the people in and around Changanacherry. It has established itself as an institution of repute in Central Travancore and has been producing excellent results in spite of the fact that it provides education to the socially and economically backward sections of the society. In the beginning it was affiliated to the University of Travancore and subsequently to the University of Kerala and at present it is one of the biggest affiliated colleges under the Mahatma Gandhi University offering 14 Undergraduate courses, II Postgraduate courses, a vocational Self-financing B.Sc Degree course in Food Science and Quality Control and 3 Add-on courses. Besides, the Departments of Hindi, Malayalam and Zoology are approved Research Centres which extend guidance to aspiring scholars. There are around 2200 students in the college. The teaching faculty consists of 125 members and non-teaching 70. The college was re-accredited by the NAAC at B++ in 2006.
