The Indian Federation Cup, also known as just the Federation Cup, is an annual round-robin to knockout competition in Indian football. Starting in 1997, the Federation Cup served as the most prestigious competition in Indian football before the start of the National Football League in 1996.[1] The Federation Cup is currenlty organized by the All India Football Federation, the governing body of football in India.[1]
The tournament's first season was in 1977 when it was won by ITI Bangalore.[1] Since then the tournament has been mainly dominated by the two Kolkata football giants, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.[1] Mohun Bagan currenlty hold the most titles with 13.[2]
East Bengal are the current holders, after defeating Dempo 3–2 in 2012 to win the cup for the eighth time.[3]
