Johannes Fleischmann and Philippe Raskin met in August 2009 during the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades. A year later, they gave their first performance together, collaborating as a duo in Vienna (November 2010) and since then have performed many concerts in Europe, Africa and South America.

Raskin & Fleischmann have undertaken many festivals and are supported by many well known musicians and pedagogic figures including Hatto Beyerle (Alban Berg Quartet), Evgenia Epshtein (Aviv Quartet), Johannes Meissl (Artis Quartet), Marta Gulyas, Erich Höbarth (Quatuor Mosaïque), Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Andras Keller (Keller Quartet) and Peter Nagy.

In November 2011, they released their first debut album that features works by Beethoven, Brahms and Franck to much critical acclaim - «Magnificent duo (...), the first offering his round, gleaming and orchestral playing to the lyricism of the second - of whom we will underline as well the perfect intonation and the bright sonorities» (MDM, La Libre Belgique 2013). Furthermore, the duo made appearances on national radios like Ö1, Radio Stephansdom and the National Radio Slovenia.

Contemporary music is an extremely important aspect to their program which have led to several performances of world premiers. Raskin & Fleischmann regularly work with composers such as Serkan Gürkan and Christoph Ehrenfellner, who have dedicated the works «Mein Wien» and «Hunt Sonata» to them respectively.

2013-2014[edit]

The current season 2013-2014 features besides the duo‘s debutconcert in the Musikverein Wien several concerts tours in Belgium, Colombia, Cyprus, Hungary, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and USA. In addition, they were also selected by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as ambassadors for the NASOM «New Austrian Sound of Music» Program in 2014-2015.

Due to their „outstanding chamber music performance“, Raskin & Fleischmann won the „Piano Chamber Music Award“ at the ISA-Festival 2014.

Philippe Raskin[edit]

Born in Brussels in 1982, Philippe Raskin devoted himself to music at a very early age. He started piano lessons with Aleksandr Friedland, a Russian conductor, and continued working with Bernadette Malter and Loredana Clini.

At the age of 16, he started studying at the Royal Conservatorium of Brussels in the class of Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden. In the same year, he obtained his first degree with the highest honours. He then joined the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel(still with Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden) and graduated again with highest honours, whilst at the same time completing his Master degree at the Brussels Conservatorium.

In 2005 he entered the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia in Madrid where he worked for four years under the tutelage of Dmitri Alexandrowitsch Baschkirow. As early as the first year, he received from H.M the Queen of Spain the Sobresaliente Prize at the Pardo Palace. He has also attended several masterclasses with many famous pedagogus including Vincenzo Balzani, Leon Fleisher, Emanuel Krasovsky, Ralf Gothoni, Albert Mamriev and Sergei Kouznetsov.

In 2010, Philippe started studying at the Strasbourg Conservatory with Amy Lin for a “Diplome de Spécialisation” where he graduated with the highest honours. In 2012, he started working with Leonel Morales. Philippe has won several national and international competitions, amongst others: the J.S. Bach Competition, the Gretry Rotary Competition, the Paris International Piano Competition, the Lions Club Competition, the André Dumortier International Piano Competition.

In 2012, he became Prizewinner at the Lyon International Piano Competition and First Prizewinner at the “Spanish Composers” International Piano Competition in Madrid.

The press speaks about his performances as a «model of radiant authority (...), solar, generous, committed and under control» (La Libre Belgique). Playing surrounded «with an impressive confidence» (Mundo Clasico). Philippe has performed many recitals, as part of chamber groups and as a soloist with orchestra in Europe, Asia, Africa and United States - in famous concert halls such as Concertgebouw, Salle Cortot, Musikverein, Auditorio Nacional etc. At the invitation of the Chopin Foundation in Warsaw he has performed in the house where the composer was born. Philippe regularly performs with orchestras, notably the Belgian National Orchestra, the Philharmonic Sofia Orchestra, the Flemish Radio Orchestra, de Filarmonie, the Sturm & Klang Orchestra, the Music Chapel of Tournai, the Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, the Orquesta Filarmonica de Malaga and the Symfonie Orkest Vlaanderen.

Philippe opened his piano school „Interpretations.eu“ in 2009 and also gives many masterclasses in Belgium and abroad. It is an extremely important aspect of his career. He also regularly performs contemporary music and has taken part in several world premieres. Several composers have dedicated works to him, including „Stringent & Tremulation“ from Belgian composer Jean-Marie Rens.

Johannes Fleischmann[edit]

In May 2009, Johannes Fleischmann made his solo debut of the Brahms Violin Concerto at the Wiener Konzerthaus. Thereafter, he has appeared in many performance as soloist notably under Christoph Ehrenfellner with the Sinfonietta Baden and with the Sinfonietta Köln.

As a chamber musician, Johannes has worked with many well-known artists such as Christian Altenburger, Rainer Küchl, Sergey Malov, Reinhard Latzko, Cédric Pescia and Veronika Trisko amongst others. He has attended multiple festivals like the “International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove”, the “Europäische Kulturtage Frankfurt”, “Attersee Klassik”, the “Festival Pablo Casals de Prades” and the “Steirische Kammermusik Festival” and has performed in many concert halls such as Wiener Musikverein, Wiener Konzerthaus, Brucknerhaus Linz, Carnegie Hall, Santory Hall in Tokyo and the Flagey in Brussels.

Besides his numerous engagements as soloist and chamber musician, Johannes Fleischmann regularly guests in celebrated orchestras such as the [[Vienna Philharmonics and the [[Vienna Symphony. These collaborations gave him the opportunity to work closely with outstanding personalities like Daniel Barenboim, Sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Georges Prêtre, Sir Simon Rattle and Christian Thielemann.

After cooperations with ORF (Austrian State Broadcasting), Ö1, [[Radio Stephansdom and the National Radio Slovenia, he has accumulated a widerange of experiences including appearances on television and radio.

Born in Vienna in 1983, the violinist Johannes Fleischmann received his first instrumental foundations at the age of 5. After graduating at the Viennese „Musikgymnasium“ he founded the „o(h)!-ton Ensemble, Wien“ in 2003. The same year, he began his studies at the [[University of Music and the Performing Arts Vienna, in the classes of Klaus Maetzl and Christian Altenburger and graduated in 2011 with distinction. Johannes Fleischmann continued his studies with Johannes Meissl and Hatto Beyerle specializing in chamber music. Furthermore, he has attended multiple masterclasses by Miguel da Silva, Wolfgang David, Evgenia Epshtein, Erich Höbarth, Rainer Honeck, Patrick Jüdt, András Keller, Peter Nagy, Ruggiero Ricci and András Schiff.
