Jim Carrington


Jim Carrington (born James Alfred Carrington, February 8th 1977) is an English author of fiction for young people.


Life and Career


Jim Carrington was born on February 8th 1977 in Norwich, Norfolk, UK. He attended primary school in Gressenhall and Beetley, went on to Litcham High School and sixth form in Fakenham before gaining a BA in English at Queen Mary, University of London, qualifying as a teacher and gaining an MA in Creative Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. He lives with his family in London, where he continues to teach part time.


Novels

Jim Carrington specialises in writing gritty fiction for adolescent boys, focussing on situations which address their lives and especially their anxieties and fears. His books are realistic, speaking directly to his audience in the sort of language they use and understand, and making use of multiple narratives. His first novel, Inside My Head (2010), set in rural Norfolk, reveals the potentially devastating effects of peer bullying. His second, In the Bag (2011), is a dark thriller about the difficulty of making the right decisions. Inside My Head is nominated for a number of awards, including in 2011 the prestigious Carnegie Medal, and the Branford Boase Award.
