Olive Knott

[edit]

Olive Knott (Deceased) seems to have been the 'First Lady' of 'Local Interest' books about Dorset, her first publications being in the early 1950's. Although some of her books refer to her as 'a native of Sturminster Newton' in North Dorset, in other books, she writes the Forward from an address in Broadstone, near Poole. Her books are about Dorset customs, its dialect, (which is referred to as 'folk speech' and it has been her aim to preserve the local tongue in print), ghosts and superstition, manor houses, beauty spots, village churches, old-time Christmas customs, the Dorset countryside, personalities, places and some of the rural Dorset Inns. Olive Knott's first books began as a series of topographical and historic articles published in 'The Poole & Dorset Herald' local newspaper.Alan Burridge (talk) 08:43, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
