Hausa which is now my mother's language despite her being Fulani has become my native language. But I am Kanuri from the great Kukawa kingdom of Borno empire. My great grandfather named Mohammadul Habib, who was said to be a prince and a warrior from the kingdom was also said to had a conflict with his family after the dead of their father, left the kingdom alone and in the middle of the night and headed down. As he was a scholar and a prince, people knew him in the neigbouring villages. Anywhere he reached the people will give him their children to study, till he reached a place named Takai in Kano state and with a large number of students. There he established a school, a house and a mosque.

He got married to a woman named Amina and had four children: Aisha, Ali(my grandfather), Umar and Mohammad. Aisha got married and her children and grand children still live in Takai local government of Kano. Umar was a business man and was travelling from one place to another and later stopped at Jos. He did not come back for a long period of time which got his family worried. Later on Ali followed him to Jos and started looking for him, but they did not meet until after some years. By the time they met, Ali had become a great scholar known all over Jos as Malam Ali limamin Yandoka or Malam Ali Takai (refering to where he came from). And his younger brother had become so rich but did not have a child. They lived their lives and demised in Jos. Malam Ali left behind him ten children: Aisha(Yaya Takano), Abubakar(our father), Umar, Aisha(Ladi), Khadija(Tine), Maryam(Tasallah), Rahmatu, Hasana, Aliyu and Zainab(Landi).

All of them got children and grand children. Umar, Rahmatu, Aliyu, Hassana and Zainab are still alive and in jos while Aliyu lives in kano. Others are dead.

But Mohammad Nazangi (Mohammad Awwal's youngest son travelled seeking knowledge and he lastly stopped at Mararraban Jos in kaduna state where he established his family. His children and grand children still live there and others in kaduna town.

My father Abubakar the second son of Malam Ali had thirteen children of which three are dead: Aliyu, Suleman, Mohammad Lamin(died), Aliyu, Nuhu, Aisha(died) Fatima Zahrau, Ahmed, Abdulrazaq, Mohammad Lamin, Mohammad Arabi, Ibrahim Inyas and Umar Farooq(died).
