Translating Spanish articles v. 1

My rare contributions to Wikipedia are usually translations of Spanish articles.

I have noticed that es.wiki articles generally have fewer citations than en.wiki articles. An example: es:Valladolid (featured article) has a byte-to-footnote ratio of 1800:1, while Newcastle upon Tyne (non-featured article for a city of similar size) has a ratio of 600:1.

I tend to avoid translating Spanish articles with what looks like insufficient citation. Does that make sense? Is it a due to a cultural difference? Or should I forge ahead, and let the "citation needed" tags be added, and let the community fill in the "blanks" over time?

My rare contributions to Wikipedia are usually translations of Spanish articles. I notice that es.wiki articles often have insufficient citations. Even those that are categorized "Articles needing translation from Spanish" (e.g. Antioquia) can suffer from this problem. Should I translate an insufficiently cited article, or should I stay away from those?
