Electric Coffin

Electric Coffin is a Seattle-based artistic collaboration and process-driven studio, coming from a long lineage of high craftsmanship and material-based making. A conceptual narrative defines each project and how the team moves through it. Electric Coffin has been known for a wide ranging multimedia practice recognizable for its collaborative and whimsical approach informed by philosophical exploration. While continuing client work conceptualizing and building commercial art installations, Electric Coffin has gained momentum as a fine art entity with their exhibition[1] at the Bellevue Arts Museum, participation in Out of Sight,[2] and gallery show[3][4] at Winston Wachter Fine Art..

While paintings and sculptural installations remain central to their approach, Electric Coffin has adapted its signature pop-icon sensibilities to an array of materials and techniques from traditional canvas and screen printing to flocking, crochet, assemblages, wood carving, and back-printed glass. Electric Coffin's work is constructed from found and created visual imagery that expresses expansive concepts of idealism and cultural identities in an often light, whimsical manner.

About

Electric Coffin began as a personal project by Patrick "Duffy" DeArmas while a sculpture student at the University of Washington. The name referenced the mission of reanimating salvaged material, which he did at the time building furniture from metal scrap. DeArmas was first joined by friend and fellow artist, Justin Kane Elder then former boss, Stefan Hofmann (founder of apparel and culture company, Spacecraft Collective[5]). The trio first combined their collective fine arts backgrounds in 2012 to dive into the world of interior design, art installations, and branding for restaurants, and retail spaces with an "Art-First" approach.[6]
