Taxonomy needs updating[edit]

The current taxonomy for Idiurus does not follow the most recent phylogenetic studies of the group. The most recent studies of anomalurid relationships based on genetic data have found Idiurus and Anomalurus to be sister taxa within Anomaluridae rather than Idiurus being grouped with Zenkerella.[1] These authors elevated Zenkerella to its own family but most subsequent authors have retained it as a subfamily and include Idiurus in Anomalurinae.
